Saltman Center for Conflict Resolution Presents Peace in the Desert Film Screening
On Tuesday, Oct. 23, the Saltman Center for Conflict Resolution at the UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law will host a Peace in the Desert film screening and panel discussion. The film is "Streetball Hafla," a film exploring the ways in which basketball has fostered harmonious relationships between Jews and Arabs in Israel.
Panelists include: Sasha Nizgoda, whose mother was raised Jewish and whose father was raised Muslim; Gilad Berman, a young Israeli Jewish tennis player who grew up in Israel and now attends UNLV; Ricky Sobers, a former professional basketball player; Tom Jackovic, Executive Director of the USA Track & Field Foundation; and Michael Saltman, Co-Founder of the Saltman Center for Conflict Resolution.

Free CLE: Representing Children in Abuse and Neglect Cases
A free CLE presented by the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada offers attorneys an excellent opportunity to learn how to represent children in the abuse and neglect system. Topics will include: the role of a children's attorney, duties to the client, abuse and neglect court processes, permanency planning, common issues facing children in foster care, the difference early intervention can make, preparing clients to age out of the system and much more.
The class will take place on Thursday, October 18, from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at UNLV's William S. Boyd School of Law. All attendees must agree to take on one new abuse/neglect pro bono case through the Pro Bono Project. Download a registration form today.

Foreclosure Mediation Program Recognizes Exceptional Participants
The State of Nevada Foreclosure Mediation Program (FMP) is recognizing the efforts of mediators who have helped more than 19,000 homeowners meet with lenders to seek alternatives to foreclosure.
An event held last Tuesday, Oct. 2, at the Regional Justice Center in Las Vegas, commemorated three years of service from southern Nevada mediators.

Family Law Specialization Exam
The Family Law Section will administer the Family Law Specialization Exam on March 2, 2013, the Saturday prior to its Family Law Conference. Those interested in sitting for the exam must apply no later than December 31, 2012.
