The State Bar of Nevada is seeking interested members to fill vacancies for volunteer appointments to the Northern Nevada Attorney Advertising Committee.

The committee meets once a month to review attorney advertisements submitted pursuant to RPC 7.2A, and to render advance advisory opinions upon request. Because it is anticipated that review and communication will largely be accomplished through electronic mediums, committee members should be proficient with computer, e-mail and Internet use.

Information Sessions Offered for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program

Beginning this week the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada is hosting a series of information sessions on its Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA).

The sessions will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, through September 23, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Mexican Consulate in Las Vegas. Attendees will learn about the program's function, review the application process and study the DACA eligibility guidelines.

For more information on the sessions, please download the flier from LACSN's website.

Volunteers Needed: Family Law Ask-A-Lawyer!

The Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada's Family Law Ask-A-Lawyer program is in need of volunteer attorneys.

The program takes place every Thursday, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. During that time, volunteers make themselves available for 15 minute consultations with participants who cannot afford an attorney but need legal assistance with their ongoing family law cases.

Volunteering with the Family Law Ask-A-Lawyer program is easy and rewarding. Attorneys may attend programs once or twice a month, every other month, quarterly or just as frequently as they can.

Those interested in donating time and expertise to people in need, or just wanting to learn more, may e-mail probono@lacsn.org or call (702) 386-1070 ext. 143.

Support a High School Student's Limited Internship

Advanced Technologies Academy High School is seeking limited internship experiences for its Legal Studies Program students. Interns will receive no monetary compensation, and the firm time required would be minimal. The student intern will be in the law office for just three hours an afternoon, once a week. The internships may run from six to 13 weeks, depending on the internship provider's preferences.

This experience will allow current practitioners to meet the Nevada lawyers of the future, provide Legal Studies Program students with a real-life opportunity to apply classroom knowledge and skills, and to find out what a lawyer really does on the job.

Those interested may contact Chrissy Paradiso at (702) 799-7870 or via e-mail at cap502@interact.ccsd.net.
