Celebrate the July Bar Exam Completion with the YLS

The Young Lawyers Section (YLS) of the State Bar of Nevada is hosting socials in both the north and south, in honor of those soon-to-be attorneys who have completed the July bar exam.

The Las Vegas event will take place on Friday, July 27 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Artifice, 1025 First Street #3, Las Vegas (near Charleston and Casino Center). Drink tickets will be available to attendees while supplies last. Please direct questions or comments to Brian Morris at

The northern event will take place on Thursday, July 26 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., on the upstairs deck of the Silver Peak Restaurant & Brewery, 124 Wonder St., Reno. Drinks will be provided. Those planning to attend should RSVP to Jess Rinehart at

These socials provide a way for prospective lawyers to relax after the test and to meet their peers in a casual, informal setting. To learn more about the YLS or to join, visit the section's page on the state bar's website.

Pro Bono Regular Wins Annual Meeting Surfboard Raffle
Fell wins raffle prize

Bar member Tom Fell of Gordon and Silver is no stranger to pro bono work and that paid off for him when he won the grand prize in the State Bar of Nevada's Annual Meeting pro bono raffle.

Beginning on May 1, 2012, Nevada pro bono agencies issued one raffle ticket to attorneys for each case they took in the two months leading up to the annual meeting. The prize was a nine-foot-long, electric green and yellow Hobie surfboard, designed by Terry Martin and signed by Nevada's judges and justices.

Fells' name was drawn at the Annual Meeting, on the morning of Saturday, June 30, and Fell took possession of the surfboard on July 12, when the bar's immediate past president, Connie Akridge, delivered it to his Las Vegas office.

Fell was recognized for his pro bono work earlier this year; his profile appeared in the January 2012, Nevada Lawyer Pro Bono Spotlight.
