Third Annual Trial Academy to Take Place at State Bar's Annual Meeting
Over the past few years, the Trial Academy has become one of the most popular features of the State Bar of Nevada's Annual Meeting. This one-of-a-kind learning experience provides participants with detailed instruction covering every facet of a trial. Break-out session subjects include themes and theories, opening statements, voir dire, direct and cross examination, objections, closing arguments, jury instructions and closing remarks.
Attendees will participate in a number of practical exercises, making the Trial Academy useful to attorneys at all experience levels. One of the most valuable aspects of the Trial Academy is the opportunity to get both hands-on instruction and detailed one-on-one feedback from expert instructors, including seasoned trial attorneys, judges and Supreme Court justices.

Justice Kennedy to Speak at Judicial Leadership Summit Luncheon
A luncheon speech by United States Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy will highlight the Nevada Judiciary's quadrennial Judicial Leadership Summit and Nevada attorneys are invited to attend. The luncheon will take place next Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at the M Resort in Las Vegas. Nevada attorneys may register by visiting the Supreme Court website, creating an account, registering and paying for the luncheon. The registration cost is $55. This event is not open to the general public. |
Opening for Tenth Judicial District Court Judge
The Commission on Judicial Selection is now accepting applications for the position of Judge in the Tenth Judicial District Court due to the death of the Honorable David Huff.
Applications may be obtained via the Supreme Court website. Applications are due by Friday, May 11, at 5 p.m. and may only be submitted in hard copy. Deliver or send completed applications to the commission secretary in accordance with the instructions in the application. Use only the application provided for this vacancy.
As you may know, the Commission revised its rules to provide for a more open selection process. Rule 3(C) provides that certain information disclosed on the application, which is not considered confidential, can be made available to the public and will be posted on the Supreme Court website. New Rule 4(D) provides that candidates' interviews, discussions of qualifications and balloting for nominations shall be held in a public session. Young Lawyers Section Seeking Officers
The Young Lawyers Section (YLS) of the State Bar of Nevada is seeking qualified applicants. The section currently has openings for District Representatives in both the north and south, and an Ex Officio Budget Director. Also vacant are the committee chair positions for various programs and projects including, but not limited to: Goldilocks, Trial of the Century; Law Suits Clothing Drive; Trial Academy; CLE; and the YLS Compensation Survey (northern and southern Nevada).
Applicants must be 36 years or younger or have been in practice for five years or fewer. Those interested should submit a curriculum vitae and cover letter to Paola Armeni at parmeni@gordonsilver.com by Friday, May 11.
