 The Nevada Supreme Court formally appointed 192 attorneys to serve as mentors in the State Bar of Nevada's Transitioning into Practice (TIP) mentorship program. Congratulations to all those selected. These mentors will be paired with newly admitted attorneys practicing in the same or similar areas of law; mentors are eligible to receive three CLE credits for each six-month cycle in which they participate. Annual Seminar for Paralegals
The Nevada Paralegal Association in conjunction with the State Bar of Nevada Legal Assistants Division will conduct an annual seminar on April 21 from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m at Harrah's in Las Vegas. On the seminar's itinerary: Hilary Muckleroy and Shaun Haley will be on hand to present a segment on employment law; Rex Velasquez will speak on immigration law; Josh Hicks will present a unit on the Nevada lobbying process; and much more.

Eighth Judicial District Court Vacancy
The Commission on Judicial Selection is now accepting applications for the position of judge in the Eighth Judicial District Court, Department 14, due to the retirement of the Honorable Donald Mosley.
Applications may be obtained on the Nevada Judiciary's website in the coming week. The deadline for filing application is Friday, April 20. Applications may only be submitted in hard copy. Deliver or send the completed application to the commission secretary in accordance with the instructions on the application.
Rule 3(C) provides that certain information disclosed on the application, which is not considered confidential, may be made available to the public and posted on the judiciary's website. New Rule 4(D) also provides that candidate interviews, discussions of qualifications and balloting for nominations be held in a public session.

Las Vegas Defense Lawyers Inaugural Event
Las Vegas Defense Lawyers (LVDL) is a newly-formed professional organization of civil defense attorneys. The organization's goals include: fostering mutual education and the exchange of ideas with fellow counsel in the city of Las Vegas and Clark County; providing balanced defense perspectives in matters of civil defense; promoting cooperation and civility among fellow counsel; improving the public perception of civil defense attorneys through service to the community; and establishing and maintaining standards of professional conduct. All civil defense attorneys within the city of Las Vegas and/or Clark County are invited to join.
The organization's inaugural event will take place at the Mob Museum, 300 Stewart Avenue, on March 29 at 7 p.m. Admission is free for members. Those interested in attending should RSVP to LVDLRSVP@gmail.com.

Tax Controversies CLE
Nevada Legal Services's Low Income Taxpayers Clinic is offering a tax controversies CLE on March 30 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Receive two CLE credits while learning more about practicing in front of the IRS and U.S. Tax Court. Issues on the agenda include: types of notices, common basis for dispute, avenues for resolving taxpayer disputes and litigation before the U.S. Tax Court.

Free CLE: Representing Abused and Neglected Children
The Clark County Bar Association (CCBA) and Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada (LACSN) are sponsoring a three credit-hour CLE on Tuesday, April 17 from 1 p.m. - 4:15 p.m. This event will focus on the role of a children's attorney in abuse and neglect proceedings and court processes, permanency planning for youth, common issues faced by children in foster care, the difference early intervention can make, preparing clients to age out of the system and much more.
