Candidates Sought for Judicial Opening in Second Judicial District
The Commission on Judicial Selection is accepting applications for the position of judge in the Second Judicial District Court, Department 9, due to the death of the Honorable Robert Perry.
Applications may be obtained via the Supreme Court website and are due on or before Friday, February 24, by 5 p.m. Applications must be submitted in hard copy format. Completed applications should be delivered to the Commission Secretary in accordance with the instructions on the application. Use only the application provided for this vacancy.
The commission has revised its rules to provide for a more open selection process. A complete copy of those rules can be found at the Nevada Supreme Court website. Questions may be directed to Myrna Byrd at the Administrative Office of the Courts at (702) 486-3201.

LRIS Grant Money Available
The State Bar of Nevada is now accepting applications for the LRIS Public Service Grant Program. Nevada organizations that fund law-related public service and/or law-related education activities are eligible. These grant awards are made annually on a "funds available" basis. All applications are subject to review and final approval by the State Bar of Nevada Board of Governors.

23rd Annual Family Law Conference
The Family Law Section's Annual Family Law Conference will take place on March 1 - 2, 2012 in Ely, Nevada. The theme of this year's conference is When Custody Gets Dirty - High Conflict Custody Cases and Evidence. This annual CLE features programming for novice and seasoned attorneys alike, along with a track designed especially for paralegals. Crowd favorites Nuts & Bolts of Family Law and a Q&A session with a panel of Supreme Court Justices are both on the schedule again this year.
Other topics will include: jurisdictional problems under the UCCJEA and UIFSA; better ways to present custody cases; ethics and very hard choices in evidence; case update; drug & alcohol abuse and domestic violence overlays during a case; and an advanced attorney track on The Hague Convention and UCCJEA.

Boyd CLE Conference: Literature and the Law
On February 17 the William S. Boyd Law School will host a day-long CLE conference titled Literature and the Law. The conference is sponsored by the student chapter of the law school's J. Reuben Clark Law Society, and produced by Travis R. Marker, an attorney and mediator, for Saint George, Utah.
The conference will feature many local attorney speakers and Chief Justice Nancy Saitta is tentatively scheduled to make a presentation. CLE accreditation is also pending. For the latest details on this program and to register, visit Boyd's website.
