Goldilocks - Trial of the Century: A New Beginning
The Young Lawyers Section of the State Bar of Nevada is revamping its current Goldilocks - Trial of the Century DVD. Section members will be filming an updated version in January and are looking for children in 3rd through 5th grade to sit as jurors for the DVD. The new DVD will be used to present the Goldilocks - Trial of the Century program to 3rd and 4th graders in schools throughout Nevada. Volunteer children will need to be at the William S. Boyd School of Law Moot Courtroom from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 7. Construction Law Section Meeting
The State Bar of Nevada's Construction Law Section's annual meeting is scheduled for January 11, 2012 at noon at the offices of Lewis & Roca in Reno and Las Vegas. A video conferencing system will link the locations. Lunch will be served.

Do you have what it takes to coach the next generation of lawyers?
The State Bar of Nevada's Transitioning into Practice (TIP) program is asking experienced attorneys to serve as mentors to newly admitted attorneys.
Beginning in April of 2012, mentors will be paired with new attorneys for six-month training sessions geared toward assisting them in acquiring the practical skills and judgment necessary to practice law in Nevada. For more information or to apply visit the state bar's website.

Join the State Bar Litigation Section
The newly formed Litigation Section of State Bar of Nevada is planning its "practitioner's toolbox" series - a series of workshop CLEs on practical litigation skills, including depositions, evidentiary foundation and persuasion strategies. The series will begin in January.
The section invites state bar members to join the Litigation Section and take advantage of the benefits of membership during the coming year. Join when you renew your bar registration or by visiting the Section's webpage. Litigation Section dues will be $30 for 2012. |
LRIS Grant Money Available
The State Bar of Nevada is accepting applications for the LRIS Public Service Grant Program. Grants will be awarded to assist Nevada organizations in the funding of law-related public service and/or law-related educational activities. Awards are made annually on a "funds available" basis, and all applications are subject to review and final approval by the Board of Governors of the State Bar of Nevada. ABA Business Law Section Spring Meeting
The ABA's Business Law Spring Meeting will take place at Caesars' Palace in Las Vegas from March 22 through March 24. The event, sponsored by the ABA's Business Law Section, features more than 60 CLE sessions, multiple social and networking opportunities and a luncheon featuring keynote speaker, Nevada Secretary of State Ross Miller.

VARN Thanks Supporters on its 15th Anniversary
Volunteer Attorneys for Rural Nevadans (VARN) celebrates its 15th Anniversary this month. Since its incorporation as a nonprofit in 1996, VARN has helped thousands of victims of domestic violence and low income individuals in the rural counties of Nevada. VARN's Domestic Violence Victims Assistance Program (DVVAP) provides assistance to victims of domestic violence in the rural counties of Nevada, while the Pro Bono Program provides legal assistance to low income individuals through a panel of volunteer attorneys.
On the occasion of this anniversary, VARN would like to thank all of its supporters, individual attorneys, law firms and businesses. Their commitment to Nevada's less fortunate is appreciated.
