          Boyertown Library is 89th

Thanks to the work of many industrious citizens, Boyertown, PA  got its first library in 1989.  Prior to that, people's only choice was driving 20 minutes to Pottstown or to the local high school library.  Having a library in the center of the Boyertown school district made sense, and it met with instant success.

The library has moved twice since then to ever larger locations to accommodate the area's growing population and its growing demand for library services.  It is currently located in the middle of the downtown and attracts over 70,000 visitors per year, many of whom then patronize other local businesses.  So, in addition to its traditional role, the library also serves as an important economic partner to local businesses, and partners with them throughout the year for various community programs and events.

One third of all Boyertown Borough residents are active library card holders, a population percentage which very few, if any, other organizations can lay claim to.  Libraries are places where people vote with their feet; if the library offers what the community wants and needs, people will keep coming back, and in Boyertown, they do.

Crane

 Boyertown Crane Preservation is 101

At this time, the property that the crane sits on does not represent the Boyertown community or meetBuilding a Better Boyertown's (BBB) mission. It is in the hopes of BBB to raise enough funds to complete this project and for BBB to maintain the property after completion.

BBB Design Committee member Adrianne Blank, a landscape architect, created a sketch of what the rail yard property could look like w
ith restoration of the crane and other beautification initiatives on the property which includes a brick patio, walkway, ironworks, benches, and historical informational kiosks, creating a community green space for all to enjoy

Boyertown State Theatre 106th

On December 7th 1912, patrons lined up to see "The Girl from the Country" and other "shorts" of the day.

The Lyric lent style and sophistication to a town desperate for enjoyment.  Only four years earlier the town had been rocked by tragedy when the Rhoads Opera House had been destroyed by fire, and the loss of those 171 residents was still very fresh on the minds and hearts of Boyertonians at the time.

The Lyric was designed with the Rhoads fire in mind, and the theater was described in the local Boyertown Democrat as being "the most modern and safest plan of theatre yet passed upon by state authorities."  Plans had called for an absolute fireproof structure as near as possible.

In late October 2008, the theater was purchased by Boyertown residents Dawn & Kevin Rhude, who continue to operate the theater as the State Theatre, offering feature films.

2010 -The Theatre has been transformed into a "Theatre of the Arts" featuring Movies, Plays, Dance & Music Productions and Community Events.
