Gretchen Lea, Interior Designer,
Offers Scholarship for Art Class at Studio B

Gretchen
Lea, of Gretchen Lea Interior Design presented
a check to Brittany Bilheimer recently as a scholarship to fund Brittany's
attendance at Studio B's 8-week Imaginative Drawing class offered by artist
Jean Esther.
Lea
believes that the creative spirit can go in two very different directions:
either toward activities which benefit themselves and others-those which are
constructive and considered "good" -or toward those activities which are
destructive-to oneself, others, or the general community.
"As
a young child, the arts kept me busy and out of trouble during my youth,
helped me with myself esteem, and served as the basis for my career," Lea
explained. "Giving a young person a chance to further her talents is my way, as
a small business person, to give back to the community," she continued.
In
addition to Interior Design business, Lea has been on numerous non-profit
boards and has a degree in Human Services. She continues to be very active in
community activities. Visit GLeaInteriorDesign.com for
information
about Gretchen Lea Interiors.
Studio
B's core offerings include classes in watercolor, pastel portraits, oil painting, YOGA,

Studio
B, home of the Arts and Activities Alliance, a committee of Building a Better
Boyertown, serves to support visual and literary artists and to promote our
local arts community; provide visual, literary, and communications art-related
experiences and classes. The studio also provides "Getting to Know You" opportunities
for members of the community to meet and learn, enjoy one another's company
along with the talents and skills of the area's artists.
The
studio seeks to enhance the quality of life and the health and wellness of the
entire community and is supported through funding offered by Pennsylvania
Partners in the Arts, Building a Better Boyertown, and the Berks County
Community Foundation, along with donations offered by individuals and
businesses within the tri-county area.

Boyertown's Second Pictorial
History Book
Features DVD of Interviews
with Boyertown Notables
A
two-hour DVD, Coming Together-Interviews with Special People from a Very
Special Kind of Place-Boyertown, PA, included with Boyertown's second pictorial
history book, compiles interviews of 16 men and women of Boyertown's past and
present.
Farms and orchards, civic and service organizations, and a focus on volunteers
who have devoted countless hours to the betterment of the community since it
was chartered in 1866 became the core of the vision for the second book along
with off -Main Street businesses, everyday life, and scenes of the area not
included in the first book.
Chapter titles featured in the 169-page volume are Main Street Revisited,
Scenes of the Area, Area Farms and Orchards, Civic Organizations, Off-Main
Street Businesses, Renowned Citizens, and Celebrations. Each chapter, authored
by different individuals, provides a variety of "voices" and writing
styles to the effort.
The interviews included the participants' memories of Boyertown's past; the people
they knew and admired whose leadership, vision, and energy formed the character
of the community; thoughts and reflections about the unique characteristics
which led to its strengths and successes; and hopes and plans for the
community's future.

The Arts and Entertainment this week in Boyertown
|

Sandy Wood's exhibit "Aquarell"-runs at Studio B, 39A East Philadelphia Avenue, Boyertown, through March 16, 2010.
Boyertown alumni show off natural talents at Studio B
Jade Doskow, Beth Ferraro, and Robert Koch will showcase their work at Studio B, in "Natural Talents II: Alumni Show and Tell" March 19-April 12, 2010.
Doskow will show photographs documenting the rapidly changing waterfront neighborhood of Red Hook, Brooklyn, while Ferraro's photography captures ordinary corners of life in historic Washington, D.C. Koch's steel sculptures attempt to create soft, fluid forms from a material known for hardness, rigidity, and lifelessness.
The artists will host two gallery talks for students and adults to provide insight into their work and careers. These talks will take place on Friday, March 19 at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. inside Studio B. The public is also invited to an opening reception from 5-8:00 p.m.
Studio B and the artists would like to thank Susquehanna Bank for their generous monetary support of this exhibit.
"This program is a natural fit for Susquehanna Bank, because it focuses on two key areas of our community support: education and access to the arts," said Joe Wynands, Branch Manager of Susquehanna Bank's Boyertown Branch. "We are pleased to be able to support this opportunity for students and others in the community to learn from these artists."
Studio B welcomes visitors to the exhibit during its regular hours--Thursday, Friday, Saturday 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., Fridays 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.--and during scheduled art classes.
