New Monthly Feature: Showcase your work!
Attention all CFA Society of MN members: We are seeking your valuable original content!
We are looking for interesting relevant investment-related content that has been researched, written and published by local members holding the CFA designation. Articles fitting this description will be included regularly in our email broadcasts. All content will be reviewed before redistribution and not all content will be accepted. Please, no sales pitches! A brief introduction to your article will be included in our e-newsletter, along with a link to the article on either your firm's website or www.cfamn.org. A nominal fee will be charged. (Something less than a banner ad on Yahoo's homepage, but more that a cup of Starbucks coffee.) With more than 3,500 on this distribution list, this is a great way to showcase your work and drive traffic to your firm's website.
If you have written something, or would like to, please contact Maren Amdal for more details. The article below is an example of what we seek. We are very excited for this opportunity to showcase our members! |

In The Little Book That Builds Wealth, author Pat Dorsey, CFA-the Director of Equity Research for leading independent investment research provider Morningstar, Inc. and our September Luncheon Speaker-reveals why competitive advantages, or economic moats, are such strong indicators of great long-term investments and examines four of their most common sources: intangible assets, cost advantages, customer-switching costs, and network economics. A note about event registration through our new website:
We are now taking advantage of the registration portal provided by CFA Institute. The new improved system includes attendance tracking, automatic application of CE credits, and an estimated savings for our society of more than $10,000 per year.
Using the system is simple. Each individual registrant must have a CFA Institute website log-in name and password. All that is required is first/last name and a valid email address. Unfortunately, at this time the new system does not allow guest registration in the same way our previous application allowed. Guests are welcome, but will need to have their own user name and password. As host, you are welcome to create this account for them. On-site registrations will be allowed as available, payable with check or by registering online on-site. |

| The End of the World as We Know It...
And I feel fine! |

MPMG Market Summary 2nd Quarter, 2009 Minneapolis Portfolio Management Group (MPMG) is an all-cap, value based, investment management firm that has been managing assets for individuals, families, and institutions for more than 14 years. MPMG's 2nd quarter, 2009 newsletter explores the current mood of Wall Street - markets dominated by the "nattering nabobs of negativism"...to quote the late Spiro Agnew. MPMG fully comprehends the real and significant challenges facing the economy. What we don't buy into are the analyses that extrapolate today's problems as the start of a "forever" trend. To best capitalize on our current volatile markets, MPMG believes a sense of history is always important. The markets have confronted a number of "end of the world" challenges in our not so distant past, and yet, in each case...astute investors have always ended up feeling fine. Faced with the barrage of negative domestic news it can be difficult to see the positive developments taking place beyond our boarders. This is a typical case of investors needing to step back from the trees to see the forest. We hope this article helps you to do just that!
Best Regards,

Phil Grodnick Harrison Grodnick, CFA |
