Afterschool Program starts on Monday!

It's your LAST CHANCE to sign up for the Fall 2010 Afterschool Program!  The 10-week program kicks off on Monday, October 4 and culminates in a gallery show of student work and holiday pop-up shop the weekend of December 17.  We're excited to start creating fantastic works of art with students and to share them with the SA community!

Didn't get to sign up this fall?  Good news!  Every Friday this fall will be a free, drop-in afternoon from 3-6pm where SA students can enjoy their time creatively and collaborate on projects.  So stop by and get involved on Fridays!  Read more about the Program, or check our Schedule online here.
Arts High Schools Workshop Weekend!

Attention to our 7th & 8th graders: Thinking about applying to one of NYC's arts-specialized programs?  Need to prepare your portfolio for the audition process for high schools?  SA's Arts High Schools Prep Workshop is the answer!  At this special 3-day, 8-hour workshop, participants will hone their interview skills, practice responding to  drawing prompts, and perfect their portfolios under the guidance of SA staff & volunteers.

The workshop will take place Friday, October 15 - Sunday, October 17, so email Lacey to sign up or download the application!

Marisa is a Do Gooder - VOTE ONLINE Oct 1-15

Brooklyn Community Foundation's Do Gooder Awards recognize the efforts of 5 outstanding, altruistic individuals working towards a stronger Brooklyn.  We think that our Executive Director, Marisa Catalina Casey, definitely fits the bill!

Did you know that as a 16-year-old, Marisa designed a photography calendar that raised thousands of dollars to benefit international orphanages, including the orphanage in Bogota, Colombia that Marisa was adopted from at the age of 3?  How about that she founded Starting Artists 10 years later at the age of only 26 in order to give teens the opportunity to be entrepreneurial, artistic, and altruistic the way that she was?  Read more and vote for Marisa by visiting!

Voting continues until October 15 - spread the word!

Join us at the Mazzone True Value Pumpkinfest

We just can't get enough of street fairs - so join us at the 6th annual PUMPKINFEST in Carroll Gardens, sponsored by Mazzone True Value!  Choose from over a thousand pumpkins, design your own, and enjoy music, pony rides, free refreshments, and more. We'll be painting faces and enjoying time with the community!
