September 2010 GET INSPIRED. GET CREATIVE. GET TO WORK! |
Dear Starting Artists Family,
It is always sad to see the end of summer, but we can't help being excited about everything coming this fall - school, the changing of the leaves, and of course the return of the Starting Artists Afterschool Program!
We are currently still out of the office for end-of-summer administrative hours; regular office hours (Mon-Thu from 10-6) will resume on Monday, September 20. Read on to find out more about our new & improved Fall Afterschool Program!

Exciting Changes to the Afterschool Program
Starting Artists is pleased to announce some changes in the way that we will be running our Afterschool Program this fall!
First & foremost, we will offer the Afterschool Program to ages 10 - 19. We offer a warm welcome to our new 10 and 11 year-olds! The community asked for it, and we are happy to deliver.
We will also pilot a new Afterschool structure. Students (ages 10 - 14) may sign up to participate at SA and will pay a sliding-scale fee while teens aged 14 - 19 may sign up as Interns who mentor the younger students on a work-study basis.
The 10-week program kicks off on Monday, October 4 and culminates in a gallery show of student work and holiday pop-up shop the weekend of December 17. Participants sign up to attend the Afterschool Program Mondays-Thursdays; Fridays are a free, drop-in afternoon where all participants are welcome to come by, work on their projects, and enjoy their time creatively.
To learn more and download the Student or Intern application, please visit the SA Programs Page. Questions? Email us or attend an Open House to tour our studio space, meet the SA staff, try an art projects, and see examples of student artwork!
Open Houses @SA Tue 9/21, Wed 9/22, Thu 9/23 all from 5pm-7pm

Volunteer for SA this Fall!
Do you have a strong interest in the arts and the desire to give back to the community? Make a difference by giving your time to SA this fall. We are seeking dynamic, artistic, and caring adults & college students who are willing to donate one afternoon per week to the SA Afterschool Program. Volunteers help SA staff plan & teach lessons, engage with teens and their artwork, and assist in day-to-day operations.
Volunteers are a vital part of the SA community - without you, we couldn't serve hundreds of BKLYN youth each year. Please visit our Support page to download the Volunteer Application or email Lacey to get involved. Thank you! |
