Results of Brooklyn Indie Market
Markowitz
SA had a blast with all the talented designers of the Brooklyn Indie Market at "A Valentine Fling" on February 13 at SA. We opened our doors to artists selling their handmade goods, SA students and volunteers, the neighborhood community, and even Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz - see the photo?!

A special thank you to our volunteers: Aaron, Abena, Alana, Alison, Asantewa, Chandani, Cyrus, Duncan, Jauhara, Jini, Juliet, Katherine, & Paul!

During "A Valentine Fling," SA students & volunteers sold handmade arts and crafts to benefit Art Creation Foundation for Children, located in Jacmel, Haiti.  So far, SA has raised over $100 to benefit ACFFC.  We are proud to support this creative & nurturing organization in a tumultuous & difficult time!

Special Projects Update - Youth Court & CEC

CECShoot2
CEC Update:
SA's Creative Entrepreneurs Club members were thrilled to visit the Fort Greene/Clinton Hill Co-op School last week to take photos of their students as part of the first-ever CEC pro bono creative project.  CEC students learned new techniques from professional photographers, mastered state-of-the-art photography equipment, and shot countless shots of adorable preschoolers!  Next, they will design a brochure for the school to use for fundraising purposes.

New Project:
This spring, SA is teaming up with the Greenpoint Youth Court to create a student-made animation about the youth court process.  Greenpoint Youth Court is a youth development program that empowers teens to assign alternative sanctions to peers who have committed minor infractions (read more via the Greenpoint Gazette).  SA students will observe & participate in the process before using their artistic process to create an animation that explains the procedure for their peers, parents, and community.  Interested in getting involved?  Let us know!
New Classes on Demand!
ClassOnDemand
Did you know that students of all ages can take class at SA through our Class on Demand program?  Just find 2 other friends or family members and tell us what you would like to learn.  We'll match you with an SA instructor and schedule a time for the private class of your choice.

We have two new Classes on Demand to offer this spring:

Portraits!: In just 2 hours, learn how to use the Chuck Close grid method to translate a small black and white photograph into a beautiful large-scale drawing.  The perfect gift or portfolio addition!

Acting & Musical Theatre: This class will prepare any student of the stage to be ready for auditions, callbacks, and performances.  Learn how to interpret songs as an actor, vocal technique, scene study, and more.

Please email Lacey for more information or to sign up - other classes available include digital photography, animation, graphic design, painting, sculpture, silkscreening, entrepreneurship, computer basics, creative writing, & more!
