Seasons Greetings!

Women of Hope Project
Is There Christmas
in Afghanistan

No matter where we celebrate Christmas, at home or in a far away land, traditionally, we want some type of decoration in our home or hotel, to remind us of our tradition.

Sometimes it is the act of giving instead of the act of decorating that reminds us of the true meaning of the Season.

It's the perfect time to donate to WOHP in honor of a loved one or to simply give the gift of Hope to someone less fortunate than us.

Won't you consider a gift of Hope to the Afghans who struggle to make their daily life
a little more tolerable.

Greetings!

In devoutly Muslim Afghanistan, Christmas is like any other day - people go to work, there are no blinking lights lining the streets and pine trees remain unadorned - except, in recent years, on Flower Street, where local tree vendors make an extra buck from the foreigners' holiday.
No Christmas Celebration

Located in the heart of Kabul, Flower Street has been different at Christmas from any other time of year, transformed into a festive place full of trees decked with multicolored tinsel garlands and lights.

Unlike many non-Christian countries in Asia, Afghanistan does not recognize or celebrate Christmas. But thousands of foreigners who live in Kabul working with the United Nations, non-governmental organizations or international military forces, celebrate the holiday quietly in restaurants and behind military barracks.

A shop keeper on Flower Street realized he could provide a little bit of "home away from home" for foreigners, so only during Christmas does he fill his store with precious Christmas items. Needless to say, if possible, his store is busy during December.
No matter where your travels take you this Christmastime, all of us at Women of Hope Project want you to know you have all been gifts to us, all year long.  We wish you happiness this holiday season, and joy in the year to come.  May all of your loved ones be warm and safe - and always keep in mind those who are far from home, dedicating time to make the world a better place!

Always in Hope,

Women of Hope Project
