Aloha Yogi's!
I hope this message finds each of you well and happily playing in the sun. Although it may not be as noticeable to you on the Island, Spring is here!!! and I am filled with gratitude! Just when I thought I couldn't take the cold any longer (Yes, only someone who had spent 7 years in Hawaii would say that about California winters!) the flowers started blooming, the birds started singing and the sun shot out through the clouds. Because although Kalia loves to pretend that we are singing and dancing and playing in the rain we spent the winter actually doing this indoors. Now however, we are singing and dancing as we plant a garden under the clear blue sky!
-Speaking of Kalia... (as I usually do!) She has discovered, as of late, just how many things one NEEEEEDS, in order to be happy. (Right?) Surprise, surprise, she was the inspiration for the article below on the yogic approach to fulfilling our every desire. Read "Getting What We Want" below for all the juicy details!!!

okay, so this picture was taken last summer, but we ARE enjoying the sun! (P.S. No more diapers!)
Much love and Aloha, Cori Contact me anytime at cori@yogacentered.com

Please join us in welcoming Molly as our newest Yoga Centered Teacher!
Yes, she will still be managing the front desk and taking care of anything and everything that any of us may need (Including me, who feels gratitude for that every single day!) But now we are excited for her to also begin sharing her practice and her knowledge of yoga by teaching Wed. 12pm and Thurs. 7pm (Community Class- $5)
Get to know more about her and read this: A Great Story About Molly Last week I was doing this exercise with my new "Yoga Business Coach" (Yes, I'm serious)-where I had to list all the things that are good about me. After 20 minutes I had 2 things on the page: 1. I smile a lot 2. I am especially nice to restaurant servers. Hmmmmmm. Stumped (since surely there is more than this- right?) I called on Molly for help. And now I can tell everyone exactly what to do if you're ever in need of a little boost- Call someone who you think really likes you and ask them to send you a list of all the things that are good about you. ☺ Wow. What a great idea!
Although, there is another option. Take some time to tell someone else who YOU really like all the things that are good about THEM.
So, in the spirit of my gratitude for Molly that day, as well as my gratitude for her almost every day, I'd like to share with all of you a few of the things that are good about Molly (And if you notice anything else, go ahead and let her know!):
Molly is extremely trustworthy, loyal, reliable, responsible and dedicated. She communicates honestly and fairly and listens openly to the other side. She seems capable of excelling at anything she puts her mind to. She is friendly, funny, beautiful, and looks great in her skimpy bikinis! She is thoughtful and very kind when kind words are especially needed. She will go out of her way to help and never complain or hold it against you.
Thanks for everything Molly! With love and gratitude, -Cori

Getting What We Want... By Cori Martinez
"But I NEEEEEEED to sit on the counter right now." or "I NEEEEEEEEEED to have JUST fruit for dinner."
are only two of the many similar pleads from Kalia that often inspire my frequent response... "You don't actually
NEED that honey, you WANT it. And Sometimes we want things but we don't
get them. And that's ok, it's actually good for us." Miraculously for
now, she seems to be intrigued enough with this idea that it will
often satisfy her. (Though a few times she has said "But sometimes we do get what we want, right Mommy?) Of Course!
But my response has gotten me thinking...
Most of us definitely devote a lot of thought and discussion to
outlining all the things we want in life. I, for one, really want a
couch, a house cleaner, no more tantrums... etc. But clearly this
process of wanting and NOT getting has to be valuable, right? An
opportunity for personal growth? An opportunity to practice my
parenting, communication and acceptance of another being and their own
chioces. (Which sometimes may be to throw themselves to the ground
kicking and screeming because they truly believe they NEEEEEED pink
underwear and NOT Purple!) Or an opportunity to find joy and peace in
the daily tasks of life. -Like scrubbing the toilet or the shower
mildew.??? And we all know sitting on the floor rather than a couch is
much better for our posture anyway, right?
So, what does all
this have to do with anything? Well, what if instead of just
opportunity to learn from what's tossed our way we subscribe to the
yogic law of Karma? ("We reap what we sew.") This Karmic law would say
that everything we receive (wether we perceive it as good or bad) is
because of what we have given in the past. And while we may not be able
to do anything about what we are receiving right now, we CAN do
something about what we will receive in the future. So, sit down and
make a list of everything you want. (Really, really want.) And then ask
yourself "How and what can I give that would be equal to this?"
Here's
a quote from Deepak Chopra about the Law of Giving: "If you want joy,
give joy to others; if you want love, learn to give love; if you want
attention and appreciation, learn to give attention and appreciation;
if you want material affluence, learn to help others become materially
affluent. If you want to be blessed with all good things in life, learn
to silently bless everyone with all good things in life."
Get everything you want. Start today by giving a smile, a flower, a compliment, a prayer....
Or not! You chose. :) Thanks for listening, thanks for practicing, thanks for everything! My love and blessings, Namaste. Cori
