Sephardic Anusim Center of the Americas
December 2008

"The exiles from Jerusalem who are in Sepharad will possess the towns of the Negev." (Obadiah 20)

Aliyah is an Imperative not an Alternative!
Hispanics Like never in history, there is a multitude of Jews, Christians and Sephardic Anusim (Crypto-Jews) committed to become true Zionists in supporting Israel. Among them is a phenomenal awakening of Hispanic/Latinos that are discovering their Sephardic roots and desire to personally support Israel by making aliyah which means to immigrate to Israel.

In fact, conservative yet reliable estimates declare that 10 to 15 percent of all Hispanic/Latinos in the Americas have Sephardic Anusim roots and have lived as crypto-Jews for over five centuries. The United States alone has 44.4 million Hispanics. Conversely, there are staggering numbers just south of the border. For instance, Mexico has 108.8 million. Central and South America has a combined population of 440 million.

When you add up these figures you come up with close to 600 million Latinos in our Western Hemisphere. It doesn't take a mathematician to figure out that the tithe of 600 million is 60 million Latinos that have Sephardic roots and bloodlines. The incredible thing is that the overwhelming majority don't even know that their blood is crying out to reconnect with their Jewish family, particularly with the land of their inheritance which is the Negev according to Obadiah's vision (verse 20).

On the other hand, we are living in a day when the immigration of Jews is at an all time low and out- migration is at an all time high. In fact, 2006 reveals an all time low for the previous 18 years with only around 20,000 new Jewish immigrants as compared to the 'high water marks' of about 200,000 during this time period.

Meantime, I have this uneasy sensation in my soul that causes me to say what I'm about to share with you. We've got some real issues to contend with relative to the fact that Israel's Jewish numbers are diminishing while non-Jewish families are heavily increasing in Israel such as Bedouins, Arabs, Palestinians and non-sympathetic Christians. While Israel's neighbors become bolder and more threatening to Israel and while they're amassing munitions and nuclear strength, we're distracted by too many issues, let me explain.

Aliyah There's a grave concern in my heart because all I see and hear is the attitude of "wait." I'm referring to those that have contemplated making aliyah some day!

--While we wait, whether you know it or not, the aliyah window has been slowly closing (ask me why some day).

--While we wait, the shekel and property in Israel have been increasing and our American dollar has been decreasing.

--While we wait, anti-Semitism has been dramatically on the rise!

-- While we wait, the "unfriendlies" of Sephardic Anusim have been gearing up against us.

-- While we wait Sephardic Anusim is getting trapped in genealogical and theological discourses and hair splitting arguments which often lead to divisions and alienation.

-- While we wait many Sephardic Anusim folks think they can equip themselves to some "ideal model" that's finally suitable for Israel and the Negev. I see this attitude as an army that's forever training and never going to battle while the war wages on!

-- While we wait "our Negev" is being taken over by those to whom the Negev was not promised: Arabs, Bedouins, Palestinians and Anti-Semitic Christians.

-- While we wait, the precious Negev trustees who have been holding down the fort in the Negev are wearier than ever, such as those that were extracted from their homes/lands like Gush Katiff and Hebron.

-- While we wait, the globe's moving towards a head on collision with terror and a war of international proportions.

-- While we wait, our country has become a declared far leftist nation over night.

-- And while we wait, God has already begun to move forward with His prophetic purposes whatever the cost. In other words, HE is not going to allow any leader or nation or coalition of nations to prolong His end-times purposes. God has begun to fulfill His Promises without our help.

Finally, I'd like to shout out: ALIYAH IS AN IMPERATIVE NOT AN ALTERNATIVE!!!

However, I must go on record as declaring that aliyah is not a permanent state of vacation in Israel and neither is it a glorified mission to the land and people of the Bible.

Aliyah is nothing less than utmost sacrifice! Aliyah is a gift of utmost commitment and love. In other words, aliyah is a standing in the gap high calling.

Aliyah is a life of perpetual intercession and intervention on behalf of Israel-not via long distance but via full penetration into the land and its society.

Being merely interested or aware of aliyah isn't enough! And it's not enough to realize you're of Jewish ancestry.

I hope I don't get you too angry when I say that believing Torah, keeping Shabbat, observing the Biblical feasts, belonging to some Jewish community does not take the place of aliyah and being planted in The Land.

Being involved in the aliyah pathway requires laying down your life for the Jewish people and Israel. And to those of you that are not of Jewish ancestry and have chosen a life of intercession and respectable intervention within the borders of Israel, I salute you with all my heart.

Being involved in the aliyah pathway is much more than merely hearing and learning and making a big fuss over the little we do. It requires total commitment to the point of taking leadership over matters and being ready to take the back seat afterwards if need be.

Vasquez/Sanchez Meantime, we have a serious need! We have two precious Sephardic Anusim families that have recently made aliyah. The Sanchez family lives in the Galilee area and the Vasquez family lives near Tel Aviv. Their plan is to move to the Negev as soon as they're done with their ulpan (Hebrew school). (In the picture is the Sanchez family to the left and the Vasquez family to the right)

My concern is this - they've committed the ultimate sacrifice and turned their backs to a life of relative comfort and regular income. Now they're living in an extremely different situation relative to their finances and living quarters. They don't have proper transportation to do what they must and to help us keep an eye on our historical exhibit in the Negev. They need our help and they need it now!

Hence, I'm challenging you to please pray and take action by making a generous donation of love for them to receive in time for Chanukah and the holidays. This is our time to shine as we enter the Feast of Lights known as Chanukah. I appeal to you to open your heart as well as your pocket book widely and quickly send a love offering so that I may Fed-Ex it to them ASAP. Those of you that send a love offering and would like to stay in touch with them personally, I'll be happy to provide you with their contact information.

Finally, I invite your feedback and opinions on the topic I've written about in this newsletter. Trust me, I'll do my very best to respond in a trustworthy and loving way.

Shalom & Chanukah Sameah,

Dell F. Sanchez
