Letter from Mitch Sadowsky & Erik Peterson
(Florida Program Co-Director's)
Happy Holidays everyone! Wow, what a
busy year and a busy fall for the D4K crew. We had two successful
Dinners with the Stars, one in Manhattan Beach October 18th and the
other November 22nd in Orlando. Many thanks to all the volunteers who
made this fall's programs so successful and to all of the stars who
joined us for the Dinners. Special thanks goes to BJ's Brewhouse of Orlando for donating food for the Palmetto Elementary D4K graduation
and to Bonefish Restaurants for donating a wonderful dinner for the
Orlando Dinner with the Stars.
Also, thank you to the athletes in attendance at the Orlando event. Those athletes were Eric Fonoimoana, Albert Hannemann, Tyra Turner, Stacy Sykora, Angela Lewis, Priscilla Lima, Tara Kuk, and Kim Whitney. Lastly, thank you to Kelly Taylor for taking the photos throughout the weekend, the Meek's for volunteering their coaching services, and the Orlando volunteers who helped throughout the weekend.
As busy as our fall was, we have a busy
winter ahead as well, as the 6 Bars of New Year's is right around the
corner in Hermosa Beach on January 3rd, 2009 (more info listed below). D4K is also
proud to announce the construction of two grass volleyball courts at
the Palmetto Elementary School location in Orlando in January of 2009.
They will be the first of their kind built according to Orange County
Public Schools and will provide the kids at Palmetto many opportunities
to further enjoy our great sport outside of the normal program hours. Special
thanks go to Paul and Stephen Gidus, owners of PSG Construction in
Orlando for providing materials and labor for this great project!
The Orlando program has set a start date
for their Spring Session with Palmetto Elementary for March 18, 2009
and is working with the Boys and Girls Club of Central Florida to add
another school this spring and to host a series of indoor volleyball
clinics this spring. We are always looking for volunteers to
help with our programs and make a positive impact on the kids' lives
and are very appreciative of any and all support.
Thank you to all of our volunteers,
Board Members and supporters! We wish you all a happy, healthy holiday
season and New Year. We will see you January 2009! |
