Letter from Christine Phillips
(Foundation Director)
Growing up in Long Beach (CA) I have been exposed to many different aspects of life. Those include cultural diversity, extreme richness, and poverty. I am the first person to admit that I was lucky enough to participate in many different activities growing up including sports, music, and education. But what about those children that grow up in underserved areas or in single family homes? Club sports are incredibly expensive these days and time consuming. How do those kids get a chance to participate or learn?
This is a huge reason that I am excited to be working for Dig 4 Kids. Eric & Albert came to me this past summer and asked if I would be interested in being a part of this growing program, which I jumped at the opportunity. D4K offers many different things to the kids involved in each session. The 4th-6th graders get a chance to get help with their homework, along with learning about eating healthy, goal setting, physical fitness, volleyball and life lessons. The high school students involved get to learn about giving back and how to be a "big brother/big sister". Both age groups end up learning from each other.
If you have never looked in the D4K program, now is the perfect time to get involved. We officially expanded into Torrance, CA (Halldale Elementary) and are looking to expand nationwide. We are also looking to start doing some fundraisers, both locally and nationwide, which will include volleyball clinics and meet & greets. If you have any ideas or want to help please contact us at anytime.
D4K is growing and affecting hundreds of kids every year. Who wouldn't want to be a part of that!
Thanks,
Christine Phillips |
