Greetings!
At 10am Sunday morning GALT~West Texas received a call from a lady named Janna requesting help for three of six dogs that were dumped on her ranch outside of Crosbyton, TX near Lubbock. She said these three were greyhounds and very, very thin. She was given GALT's contact info by a local greyhound rescue group. The greyhounds were happy to have found a person willing to shelter them, water them and feed them. Knowing a good thing, the young greyhounds stuck around....unfortunately the other three dogs continued on their journey.
By 4:30pm Sunday afternoon, Janna had transported the greyhounds safe and sound to Tails Inn Kennels in Amarillo where they met GALT-West Texas reps Lonnie and Kyle Jones. The youngsters will be medically evaluated by Dr Wick Culp of Animal Medical Center and spoiled rotten by the caring staff there. Penelope, Timothy and Arthur are three very lucky hounds!
Timothy (top) and Arthur (bottom) are black males. Penelope (center) is a fawn female. Dr. Culp thinks it's possible that they are littermates. Very thankfully, all three are heartworm negative.
You can help GALT "bridge the gap" for these special greyhounds by donating to the Bridge the Gap Matching Fund. Your donation goes to greyhounds in need like Timothy, Arthur and Penelope. The best part is your donation gets matched thanks to the Robert Tucker Hayes Foundation. Please consider donating while we have this matching fund. Your dollars go twice as far and the dogs need it!

FEATURED GREYHOUNDS
These Kennel Greys Need YOU!!
Are you a little curious about the greys in our kennels - most of whom are included in the relatively new "Training Camp" category on the GALT website? There are currently six greys in boarding - Flash, Gumbo, Tara, Spinner, Doc and Selena - all of whom are ready to move into Metroplex foster homes now. A few of GALT's kennel volunteers wanted to share some thoughts about the personalities of these greys, in the hope that others might develop an interest in fostering and/or adopting them sooner rather than later! We will be sharing information about them over the next two weeks.
Gumbo is a lovable, goofy two-year-old who gets REALLY happy and excited when kennel volunteers arrive to take him for a walk. He calms down as soon as he gets outside, however. Gumbo handles well on the leash and he absolutely loves his human friends. This white male has beautiful brindle spots all over his body - including striking patches over both ears and eyes. He has an adorable way of locking his eyes on you when you talk to him - as if he understands and is hanging on to every word you say. Gumbo is experiencing happy tail in boarding, so his tail is wrapped as a precaution to keep him from damaging it. Once he is out of this boarding situation, the bandage should be able to come off.
Spinner is an approximately four-year-old black female who came to GALT as a stray from the Amarillo Animal Shelter. She spent some time in a foster home where she terrorized the family cats, so it would be best to keep her away from your feline friends! While living in the streets and pastures of West Texas, Spinner developed a patchy brown "overcoat." However, after some vigorous brushing and attention from GALT's kennel volunteers, she has lost most of this second coat and is turning into a shiny black beauty. Spinner loves loves loves her human buddies and can't wait to get outside when she sees one of us grab her leash.
Doc is a 2-1/2 year-old red fawn male who arrived to GALT from a high kill shelter in Harlingen, where he had been turned in with Selena and Heather. In his first GALT kennel, Doc was known as "Mr. Cool" due to his laid-back nature. However, he had quite a spring in his step when he arrived at the new kennel a few days after his neuter surgery. His personality seems to still be evolving, which should make him quite an interesting study in his first foster home! Doc has not yet been tested with cats or small dogs.
