Greetings!
This week we are celebrating the greyt news of Clooney being heartworm free! Clooney, as you may remember, came to GALT with 9 other greyhounds from an East Texas animal shelter where he was an owner surrender. In fact, all 10 dogs were slowly being turned in to the shelter and all 10 tested heartworm positive. They became known as the "Heartworm Ten", with Clooney and pal Charity having the worst cases as they also battled heavy intestinal parasites.

Clooney, now heartworm free!
|
Foster homes took forever to find as medical treatment was necessary for all. It has been a long haul for these 10 sweet, brave greyhounds. Clooney being the first to test heartworm negative gives us great hope that recovery for the other 9 is near. But it's not possible without your help. Stetson, Onyx, Blade, Cupcake, Harry, Carbon, Timex, Stewart and Charity are not out of the woods yet, and their costs are still incurring. On top of that, each of these dogs needs a huge amount of human socialization; we can mend the medical as best we can, but the psyche of the greys needs mending too..........which could take a LOT MORE time. Won't you consider donating to help the IR greys? Every little bit helps get them back in shape and ready for their future adoptions. Don't they all deserve the best?
Sincerely,
The Officers, Directors, and Committee Members of Greyhound Adoption League of Texas, Inc.

2013 Greyt Gala Committee Now Forming!
The 2012 Greyt Gala - Faith, Hope and Charity was GALT's most successful gala fundraiser ever! The monies raised from that event enabled us to continue to uphold our Mission and continue to live by "No Grey Turned Away". We are committed to a repeat (and even better!) performance this year but cannot do it without the help of our volunteers. We need your help to make this year's event a success for GALT and the greyhounds!
The committee needs help in all areas for planning and event day participation. For instance, Registration, Volunteers, Checkout, Securing Auction Items, Setup, Breakdown, GreytStore, and Decorations. If you have an interest in participating and can give a little of your time for any part of the Gala, let us know!

FEATURED GREYHOUND

Angel, aka CSL Wild Angel, is a 3½-year-old brindle female born October 18, 2008. Her sire is Craigie Whistler and her dam is Y Knot Cady. Angel has 35 races to her credit on Greyhound-data.com, all at Gulf Greyhound Park - she was quite the racer, competing in the AA class! Her record of races starts on October 8, 2010 and ends on April 28, 2011. She broke her leg in November 2011, and it was repaired, however she is suffering from complications due to a bone infection and joined the GALT family to receive necessary treatment. In spite of aggressive treatment with antibiotics, Angel's infection weakened the bone to the point where the only option was to amputate her leg. She is all healed up from that surgery, and is ready to hop right into her forever home! Be sure to meet this little girl soon! Angel is not cat tolerant, and should not live with tiny dogs.
Angel, couch potato extraordinaire, is one relaxed, quiet greyhound. She is happy spending her day in tranquility mode sprawled out in the many dog beds she owns. She really is an Angel - thriving on attention and is friendly with other medium and large dogs. She is too attentive with small dogs and cats to live with them. Angel gets along fine on 3 legs. She would do well in a carpeted home. The carpet provides traction and makes mobility easier. Angel is perfectly house trained and crate trained.
