Greetings!

As we approach next week, keep in mind it's 4th of July, and that means FIREWORKS and lots of SCARED GREYHOUNDS! Make sure your gates are closed and locked so if fear does strike, they are at least in the safety of your yard (as a general rule, it's always good to make sure your gates are locked so gardeners and such cannot accidentally let your greys out). Get those thundershirts ready if you live near areas where fireworks are allowed. Help them feel safe with lots of reassurance and love. This is one of the scariest days of the year for most greyhounds, especially newly retired ones!

Can you FEEL THE HEAT? You can bet your dogs can! Even though our greys have thinner coats than most dogs, they are still fur coats nonetheless. Make sure they aren't sunbathing too long, even if they seem to be enjoying it. Consider shortening those walks - remember dogs can't sweat! Pay attention to your dog and let their signals help guide you... Are they panting more than usual? Are they drinking more water? Does it look like the pavement is too hot for their feet? Be aware of what your house temperature is, and how much water is in their bowl. Texas summers are brutal. Be careful and keep the pups safe!.

Sincerely,

The Officers, Directors, and Committee Members of Greyhound Adoption League of Texas, Inc.

GALT'S SPECIAL FRIEND

MasonandAngel
Mason, recently adopted by Mark Bruscher, relaxes with Angel -- an available grey -- at Petco Grand Prairie.
Mark Bruscher, the General Manager of Petco Grand Prairie, is one of GALT's many "angels" who gives to our organization in so many different ways.  Mark personally donates to GALT on a regular basis, and he hosts a Meet & Greet at his store several times a year.  In addition, Mark has also been instrumental in directing numerous Petco Foundation grants to GALT over the last few years.  But that's not all -- Mark is also a "serial" GALT adopter!  He recently adopted Mason, and he is also the dad of GALT's Lemonade and Hannah.  His other two GALT greys, Jazz and Aruba, are waiting at the Rainbow Bridge.

Presentation
Mason presents the $500 Visa gift card to Hazel, Wyatt, Brad and Gus.  Brad met his new forever Mom at the Grand Prairie Meet & Greet -- but Hazel, Wyatt and Gus are still waiting for their forever homes!

At the Petco Grand Prairie Meet & Greet earlier this month, Mark and Mason presented a very special gift to the other GALT greys in attendance. The gift?  A $500 Visa gift card!  Mark had entered an Avoderm display contest recently and beat out 149 other stores in the region for first place. The $500 award, which Mark generously donated to GALT, will be used to pay vet expenses.

GALT is privileged to count Mark as one of GALT's special friends and champions.  Thanks, Mark -- for all that you do for the hounds!

FEATURED GREYHOUND

hazel

Hazel is a 2-year-old red female with a dark muzzle born in January 2010. Her tattoos are still being researched, but she is marked as the 'C' pup in her litter. This serene girl is sure to charm you with her dark muzzle and contrasting white feet!

Hazel has passed her initial cat test and she is also fine with small dogs.

Hazel is a sweet, outgoing girl who loves to chase, and be chased by, our Jack Russell puppy. When not vigorously playing with her toys or her playmate, she is searching for someone's knee to rest her head on. Though not a "Velcro dog" she loves to be with people and will get herself in some pretty awkward positions in order to press her head against her you. She is a roacher (lays on her back), which is adorable! She loves long walks and is quite good on a leash. She is very tolerant of our neighbor's very small, very hyper dog that eagerly jumps on her face when they meet during walks. Hazel is a beautiful, loyal and caring dog who, I believe, is capable of thriving in almost any environment, as long as she has a person she can love.
