Greetings!

With summer upon us, vacation plans are on many folks' agendas. Just a reminder if you need a place for your greyhound to stay while you are out of town (unless the lucky guy or girl goes with you), GALT maintains a list of greyhound savvy people (email info@GALTx.org)  who board at their homes or pet sit at your home. And of course there are always the many boarding facilities around the metroplex that can accommodate your greyhound.  Just be sure if you leave your greyhound with family, neighbors or friends, that they are aware of the greyhound's behavior and habits, and are "greyhound savvy" in general.  Some people just don't know how sensitive greyhounds are to the Texas heat, or just how fast they can slip out a door. Texas heat, and Texas traffic can both be lethal.  GALT's good friend Claudia Presto has some excellent information on heat exhaustion on the Greyhound Gang's website.

Also with summer comes vacation time for GALT's regular foster families. If you have been thinking about fostering, now is a perfect time to get your feet wet and give it a try. Our foster homes are a very important resource - we couldn't do without them! Contact Jennifer Vilches at Jennifer@vilches.org if you can help.

Sincerely,

The Officers, Directors, and Committee Members of Greyhound Adoption League of Texas, Inc.

JAMES GUDE PLEADS GUILTY

As many of you that follow GALT know, James Gude was charged with three Class A Misdemeanors in the Tarrant County District Court for his inhumane treatment of the 9 greyhounds taken by GALT in July 2010 from the FWAC 28 seizure including the deaths of Pudge, Rachael and MartinIn addition, on July 13, 2011, Gude relinquished Faith and her 8 puppies to Ft. Worth Animal Control after an inspection of his premises.

The following email was just received from the Tarrant County District Attorney's office:

Today, June 20, 2012, James Gude pled guilty on all three cases.  He was sentenced to one day in jail (meaning he has a firmed up conviction) on two of the cases.  This means that the next time he does this, it will be a felony.  On the other case, he pled to 18 months probation with a $1000 fine.  His conditions are that he cannot have any animals at all, he must do 24 hours of community service at the animal shelter, he must consent to home visits and he must report to a probation officer during the whole period of probation.  If he is found with any animal during his period of probation, his probation could be revoked and he could be sentenced to jail for up to 1 year.

FEATURED GREYHOUND

Tiffany

Tiffany, aka Rays Lexus, is a 2-year-old black female born August 29, 2009. Her sire is Flying Penske and her dam is Robin's Alexis. She has no races to her credit on greyhound-data.com, preferring to start her retirement early. Tiffany is littermate to Autumn.

Tiffany's Cat Test: Tiffany sniffed both cats and promptly wandered away. She had no interest in them, even Floppy who was annoyed and was being very vocal.

Tiffany is a sweet, quiet, reserved girl who would love to have a canine companion to hang out with in her forever home. She might also do okay as an only pet if someone is home with her most of the time. She loves playing with our dogs in the backyard. She totally ignores our cats - what a good girl! She's fine with our young boys - if they get to playing too loudly, she'll just get up and move. Small dogs seem to fit in the loud kids category - she avoids little yappers at meet & greets. She has learned her house manners nicely - she comes to find us when she needs to go out to do her business and has never counter surfed or gotten on the furniture. She crates well, and in fact sleeps much better in the crate than out on a dog bed at night. She rides well in the car - jumping in, laying down, and not rushing to jump out. While playful outside, she prefers just to hang out on a dog bed inside, preferably one with a window view. She has tossed a toy around occasionally, but seems to prefer just picking one to keep near her for a few days and then swapping it for another toy.

Tiffany She enjoys affection, snuggles, and hugs once she gets to know you. She can't wait to meet a loving, patient forever family who will give her time to blossom!
