Just when we hear about some of the problems wwith kids these days - baggy pants, no respect for teachers/parents, etc. - our faith in the younger generation is renewed by a couple of GREYT kids who recently went the extra mile to help the houndies!
Dylan MummaDylan Mumma - This remarkable young man is working on his Eagle Scout badge and was recently looking for a nice community project to add to his resume/application. His mother, Christa, happened to mention Dylan's dilemma to Ashley Wilson, a GALT volunteer, when Ashley met Christa in the dentist's office. After a few phone calls and e-mails, Dylan was off to the races! He and his friends ran a drive to raise money, food, grooming supplies, toys, large dog beds and feeding stations for GALT's greys. Dylan and company assembled three huge gift baskets, two of which were auctioned off at the GALT Greyt Gala - generating a total of $925 in the live auction! The third gift basket will be the grand prize for the raffle at the GALT Birthday Party on April 21st. Congrats to Christa and her husband Dale for raising such a super kid, and thanks, Dylan, for your generous and thoughtful Eagle Scout project!
Elizabeth SpoonElizabeth Spoon - When Elizabeth and her mother, Melissa, walked into Petco Carrollton on January 7th, they immediately fell in love with Ada, one of the "Thank Heaven Eleven" greys rescued in Wichita Falls late last year. Within no time, Ada was happily ensconced in the Spoon home, and Elizabeth decided to do something special for her upcoming 9th birthday party. Elizabeth asked all her friends to bring presents to the party for Ada's greyhound buddies, in lieu of gifts for herself. Elizabeth's friends responded quite generously, with $55 in donations to GALT funds, plus $100 in Petco/PetSmart gift cards, toys and treats. The gift cards and most of the other items have been put into two gift baskets for the April 21st GALT Birthday Party raffle, but Elizabeth requested that we split up one giant box of Milk Bones for Ada's GreytFriends still in boarding at Houn' House, BARK and Top Paw Resort. Kudos to Melissa and her husband, Brian, for producing such a sweet, generous daughter - and thanks to YOU, Elizabeth!

It has never been easier to support the GALT greyhounds! GALT Champions are dedicated GALT supporters who pledge monthly donations to ensure funds will always be available to care for our precious greyhounds. The GALT champions make "no grey turned away" a reality each and every day.
You can choose your level of monthly support ($15, $25 or $36) or write in the amount that you wish to pledge each month to help the hounds. It's that simple! Donate

Smoke, aka CJC's Smoke, is a 4 1/2- year-old black and white male born July 8, 2007. His sire is Dragon Fire and his dam is Greys Real Nifty. Smoke has 53 races to his credit on, all at Wheeling Downs. His first race was on February 6, 2009 and his last was on June 17, 2010. This big boy was stressed by his trip, and is resting in a foster home after being treated for hypothermia. He is fully recovered now and ready to find that special forever home

Where there's Smoke, there's... spots? Smoke has gorgeous black spots on his white body, and there's an even smattering of black ticking in between them - what a hunk! Smoke is a confident, affectionate boy who loves being close to you. He's people oriented enough to be a good only pet, but would also do well with female dog siblings. He doesn't want to share his humans with another male dog. This tall boy loves mealtimes and walks best of all, but recently he's been discovering the joys of toys - he loves long floppy ones that he can shake and toss. Smoke does great with kids. He is a quick learner - he knows the "crate" command well and settles in there nicely for a meal or a treat and waits patiently to be let out. He knows the house rule about only going potty outside. We're still working on the rule about kitchen counters being off limits, but he's starting to catch on - those smells are just so tempting! Smoke is a happy boy at heart, and is always ready with a tail wag and a kiss.

Lauren, aka Wanego Lauren, is a beautiful 7-year-old fawn female born July 15, 2004. Her sire is WMS Castaway, and her dam is Greys Gold Star. Lauren has 42 races to her credit on starting February 7. 2007, at the now closed Corpus Christi, TX track and ending there on December 16, 2007. Lauren was then adopted, but due to economic circumstances a few years later, her owner requested GALT's help in finding Lauren's forever family. Lauren was then adopted for a couple of months, but has since returned to GALT as she needs a forever home with a canine companion.
