Greetings!
It's February, and aside from being Superbowl month, it also means Valentine's Day is coming up. Remember to keep those yummy human chocolates away from your four-legged friends, but please do give them a special treat of their own for being man's best friend. Whether that's an extra walk, play time with a new toy, a snuggle session, or a special dog-safe treat, they're sure to appreciate the love!
And while we're talking about that sweet tooth for Valentine's treats, it's a good time to mention that February is also Dental Month. Dental care is an important facet in a dog's health - check out those canine chompers today. Not-so-sweet breath, red tender gums, or plaque build-up can all signal a need for a dental cleaning. Ensuring good health is a Valentine's present for both of you!
Sincerely,
The Officers, Directors, and Committee Members of Greyhound Adoption League of Texas, Inc.

GALT respectfully requests your presence at the...
11th Annual Greyt Gala & Auction
"FAITH, HOPE & CHARITY"
March 3, 2012 HILTON DALLAS IN SOUTHLAKE TOWN SQUARE 1400 Plaza Place, Southlake, TX 76092 Cocktails & Wine 6:00-7:00pm Gourmet Dinner 7:15 pm $125 for a single ticket purchase $100 per ticket (when two or more are purchased at the same time) For almost eleven years, the Greyhound Adoption League of Texas (GALT) has been not only the organization of choice for retired greyhounds requiring adoption services, but often the adoption organization of last resort for many injured, abused, and neglected Greyhounds.
GALT's mission of "No Grey Turned Away" has resulted in unconditional intake of greyhounds no matter what their medical needs are. For some of these greyhounds, the journey to a forever home comes relatively quickly, Many others require vast amounts of medical care to treat broken legs, heartworm infestation, tick borne blood diseases, the ravages of near starvation plus time to heal. As a result of this dedication, GALT saw its annual operating budget increase from about $280,000 in our fiscal year 2009-2010 to nearly $400,000 in our last fiscal year 2010 -2011 due to increased medical and rehabilitation costs for these sick and injured greyhounds
The monies raised from your ticket and auction purchases will provide the funds needed for GALT to continue to provide care and substance for the injured, sick, abused and neglected greyhounds.
Your FAITH in GALT, your never-ending HOPE that every Greyhound has a loving home, and your CHARITY at this event will make that possible.

MEND A BROKEN HEART WITH A CANDYGRAM!
With the large number of heartworm positive dogs GALT has received over the last few weeks, won't you consider brightening one (or more) lucky dog's Valentine's Day with a special Candygram and help mend a "broken heart"? A $10 donation will put a candy heart with your name or an "in honor of" on the dog's webpage for the rest of the month of February.
GALT has 15 dogs in its care being treated for heartworms - that's a record number! Angie, Blade, Carbon, Charity, Clooney, Cupcake, Dani, Harry, Jasper, Nutmeg, Onyx, Sophia, Stetson, Stewart and Timex could all use a little extra love this Valentine's Day. Give them a little piece of your heart here.

INCOMING DOGS
Hugh is a red male who is estimated to be 2 years old. He was found as a stray in Amarillo and while, thankfully, he is heartworm negative, he does not need to be treated for tick-borne diseases. He is resting in his foster home. Hugh is not cat tolerant.

FEATURED GREYHOUND

Mars is a 4-year old red male born November 2007. His registration number is not legible due to it being double tattooed, but his litter number is 117E. Mars was turned into the Tri-Cities Shelter and from there he came into the GALT family. This handsome fellow has very expressive ears!
Mars is not cat tolerant.
Red like the planet, Mars is just the sweetest hound around! He is a total cuddler and sticks to me like velcro when I'm at home. He'd love to stick his long nose under any body part you'd let him get away with. His thin, whippy tail goes so fast, he often slaps my other greyhound in the face with it - it can be a painful but thankfully non-lethal weapon. With his coloring, he'd make a great deer for Halloween, or look wonderful in some reindeer antlers for those Christmas pictures. He's a slightly timid boy until he gets to know you and startles at sudden movements. Because of this, he'd probably do better in a home without very small children. I'll miss Mars greatly when he finds his forever home. -Mars' foster dad
