What you say to yourself and how you say it has a strong impact on your ability to achieve your goals. Learn how and why positive thinking is such a powerful tool for making changes or creating concentration and relaxation. Understand a clear process for creating specific positive thoughts, called affirmations, that have meaning for you and your needs, and learn when and how to use them for maximum effectiveness to attain focus, persist in practice, work more smoothly with colleagues, or enhance performance in high pressure situations. The class will be taught by Helen Spielman, performance anxiety coach and RAFA member.

baily Flute Choir Festival

Thanks to Mary Croghan, member of Silver Winds and Silver Pipes, for the following review of the April 11 RAFA event with guest John Bailey, who coached RAFA flute choirs and ensembles (pictured below with him).

The Sunday afternoon spent with John Bailey offered an experience to the RAFA flute choirs that included good information and advice, refinement of many sections in the pieces played, and much fun.

John's sense of humor and ability to improve the playing both of individuals and groups came through in his instruction.  He managed to critique and teach at the same time that he offered praise for the work that Sonja and the choirs have already accomplished.

Probably it's true to say that John's overriding piece of advice was to relax and have fun along with working on intonation, intonation, intonation!  Many thanks to John Bailey for a valuable and fun time!

Here is an important message for Adult Amateur Flutists: Do you avoid situations in which you might have to play the flute in front of an audience? Would you like to be able to play for people without having anxiety? The Second Winds is a perfect group with whom you can practice performing. We are a small, welcoming, compassionate, informal group of people who get together every other month and play for each other. Do you HAVE to play? No! But bring your flute so that you can do some playing with the group as we warm up. NEXT MEETING: Sunday, May 23, at 2:00. Our meeting place is St. Philip Lutheran Church at 7304 Falls of the Neuse Road, just across from the Ravenscroft soccer fields.

Come join the fun! For more information, call or e-mail Mary Croghan:
