piccolo masterclass

Review of September's Piccolo Event

RAFA's 2009-2010 season opened on a high note (quite literally!) with a piccolo concert/class with guest musicians Erinn Frechette (piccolo) and Emily Jarrell Urbanek (piano) on September 27.  The polished and eclectic program introduced audience members to interesting new compositions by Ken Benshoof and Thea Musgrave, in addition to the more standard repertoire by Vivaldi and Genin.  Proving that the piccolo can, indeed, by played with impeccable intonation and soaring musicality, Ms. Frechette later shared some of her piccolo secrets as she coached local performers and fielded questions from class participants.

Whether or not you were able to attend the event, you might be interested in purchasing Erinn's recommended piccolo music and accessories, which will be available for sale in the exhibit room at the November 14th Flute Fair.

Performing in the piccolo masterclass were (pictured L to R):  Michelle Dunn, (Erinn Frechette), Ayla Goktan and Brandon Allen.
