Indaba Contest Results

Yo Yo MaIn last month's Tune In, we invited the RAFA community to support our talented flutist friends Joanna Sisk-Purvis (from Durham) and Rhonda Larson (guest artist for RAFA's 2007 Flute Fair). Both musicians had taken up the challenge to virtually collaborate with famed cellist Yo-Yo Ma by creating a counter melody or entirely new set of variations to complement his recording of the traditional song "Dona Nobis Pacem."

The Indaba-sponsored contest attracted more than 450 entries, which were in turn voted upon by the Indaba community (including many of you). Rhonda's entry received Honorable Mention (one of the top ten), while Joanna's composition landed close by in the top 25. Hear the winning entries. Thank you for your encouragement and support of musical creativity!

proSave the Date!!!

Mark your calendars for Sunday, March 29 at 3 p.m. for the RAFA Collaborations Concert--a unique concert event that celebrates the musical ventures of our professional flutists with other instrumentalists and vocalists. The program features chamber works with a variety of guest musicians: flutists Christine Gustafson and Wendy Mehne with pianist Andrea Merrill; flutist Mary Jo White and guitarist Rob Nathanson; flutist Catherine LeGrand and pianist Kenneth Grigg; and flutist Nancy Schneeloch-Bingham with soprano Julia Pedigo. The concert will be held at St. Philip Lutheran Church, 7304 Falls of Neuse (across from Ravenscroft School) and is free to members as well as the general public.
