Review & Contest
Sunday, November 2
2:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Highland United MethodistChurch

More than 160 flutists, a record number of participants representing 29 different teaching studios throughout North Carolina and parts of Virginia, will converge on Highland United Methodist Church on Sunday afternoon, November 2, to perform their solos for written evaluation and an opportunity to receive cash awards. Coordinator Lauren Robbins-Pollack is currently working her magic to schedule specific performance times for everyone. Once the schedule is finalized, Lauren will contact adult participants and flute teachers, who are then responsible for sharing this information with their students. Please remember that only original music is acceptable (no copies are permitted).

Also mark your calendar for the Contest Winners' Recital on Friday, November 14, 7:30 p.m. (also at Highland United Methodist Church). This recital is open to the public at no admission cost. Refreshments will be served after the recital.

Review and Contest questions can be directed to Lauren Robbins-Pollack at (919) 557-2272 or density21.5@earthlink.net.

Choir RehearsalOver the Edge
and more...
Notes from the
September RAFA event

RAFA hosted composer Ben Boone and flutist Mary Jo White at Meredith College last month. Mary Jo played an entire program of unaccompanied flute works by North Carolina native, Ben Boone. Both musicians then led a portion of the masterclass. At right, the masterclass flute choir rehearses Boone's VERY challenging piece, Over the Edge.

Ben forwarded this message:

What a FABULOUS group of players you are! It was a true pleasure to hear you play my flute choir works-and I was blown away by the way adding the contra enriched the harmonies in Serenade-what a treat! And I always love to hear groups that really dig into OVER THE EDGE...and you did!   In short, I am honored that you had me there, and I'd love to come again if the opportunity presents itself. Many MANY thanks, and keep up the marvelous work!

And from Mary Jo White...

Ben and I were so honored to have been asked, and we had a wonderful time!

Tom Moore from Classical Voice of North Carolina was on hand to write a review.
