This is a BIG Week for RAFA!

You won't want to miss out on these incredible flute events!

Contest Winners' Recital

 RAFA's 23rd Annual Review & Contest was held this past Sunday with more than 150 participating flutists of all ages and levels. A special thank you to coordinators Lauren Robbins-Pollack and Heidi Sue Iseminger and their amazing team of judges, door monitors, and other volunteer staff who helped make this popular event a resounding success. Please join us this Friday evening, November 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Highland United Methodist Church for the Contest Winners' Recital. The first Anusha Vasudeva Scholarship Award will also be presented that evening. Refreshments will be served afterwards. The public is invited at no admission charge. Congratulations to all the Contest winners!


BaxtresserFlute Fair

It all happens this Saturday (Nov. 10), 9:00 to 5:15 at Highland United Methodist Church. The day's activities are free for RAFA members or $10 general admission (payable at door). Lunch is provided (donations appreciated). Click for downloadable schedule.

 

What to bring:

·   Paperpad for taking notes in the masterclasses and workshops.

·   Music scores of pieces to be played in the various classes (if you care to  follow along) - all pieces are listed on the Flute Fair schedule.

·   Spending money - for CDs, books, accessories, gift items, a really cool flute T-shirt ($15), lunch donation, and maybe even a new flute!

 

The following music and books by Jeanne Baxtresser will be available for sale at the special discount prices listed.  Jeanne has also graciously offered to autograph any of her items purchased at the Flute Fair or brought from home.

Flute Fair Treasures

Donate your old music, CDs, flute accessories or knick-knacks to a worthy cause. Bring your items to the Exhibit Hall at the Nov. 10 Flute Fair. We will have a "RAFA Treasures" table where items will be made available to anyone in return for a donation to RAFA.

at UNC-Chapel Hill
You are invited to attend an orchestral excerpts masterclass with Jeanne Baxtresser at UNC-Chapel Hill this Thursday (Nov. 8), 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. in Person Recital Hall (adjacent to Hill Hall). Flute majors at UNC-Chapel Hill who were selected by competitive audition will perform selections from Ms. Baxtresser's well-known books of orchestral excerpts (both solos and duos).

The program will include a lecture/demonstration by Ms. Baxtresser on the topic "Practicing Creatively: A Lecture/Demonstration on Building Maximum Confidence, Technical Security and Genuine Inspiration for the Orchestral Audition."

Admission is free for everyone.
