RAFA Member Honored by Altus Flutes!

RAFA member Jake Beerel was recently selected by Altus Flutes to receive an Azumi Flute in the company's new program to recognize exceptional talent in young musicians across the nation. Jake's flute is one of the first six prototype Azumi flutes,  which pairs a quality factory-made body with the newest Altus hand-made Britannia silver headjoint design called the "Z" Cut.

Jake Wins FlutesRecipient Jake Beerel, 13, has been playing flute for five years, performs with the Lighthouse Christian Homeschool Band, his church orchestra, and often jams and improvises with his father Wolfgang (piano) and brother Joshua (alto sax and piano).  Jake's flute honors include All-District Band, All-State Honors Band, RAFA Review and Contest winner, and superior rating in RAFA's Solo Fest in March 2007.  In addition to music, Jake enjoys playing football with his brother and friends, reading, and learning about history.  Jake's flute teacher Rosene Rohrer best explains his incredible talent with this description, "Jake is the only student in my 35 years of teaching who spontaneously adds ornamentation while sightreading Kuhlau duets--and all this while playing with amazing musicality!"

Member Upgrades Site
Nathan Zalman announces a new version of his website, which includes a great deal of content: new music, presentations, tutorials, additional downloads, and much more. You'll find it at http://ZalmanStudios.com and at http://ZalmanStudios.com/website-v3/index.php
RAFA Loves Trees!
treeBut that's only one reason we've gone to an electronic newsletter. There's a couple more, such as more timely news and news more often. If you miss a monthly issue, don't despair, you'll still be able to find it in the newsletter library along with all the other back issues of Tune In. Without question escalating publication costs played a big role in our decision because ultimately we want to keep dues low and programs first rate.
Rest assured that you'll still enjoy the traditional Flute Fair booklet and printed programs--at least until iPhone technology become more universal.
A note to our sponsors: You'll notice that while your ad will no longer appear in every monthly issue, when it does, readers will be able to "click through" to your website. We also think you'll be pleased to see that your ad now appears continuously on the RAFA sponsor page with the same "click through" feature. And best of all, you can now use color.

We invite you to visit our website for additional information about upcoming events such as the 23rd Annual Review and Contest and the 2007 Flute Fair.
