This call will be a guided meditation into deep presence, into the Heart of Hearts by way of the Samyama practice. I was initiated into the practice of Samyama 17 years ago, and have used it daily ever since. It is a radically, life-changing practice, especially useful during difficult times. With training, healing practitioners can incorporate Samyama into their current work to heal grief, trauma, and other psycho-spiritual issues, as well as learn the practice of Samyama Healing with others.

I also discuss the process of initiation, longing, mythic
perspective, the evolution of the mystery school, and this feminine path of
spiritual awakening. The writing is a weaving of memoir with the learnings
distilled from my time stewarding the Temenos Center and the Temple of the

Have You Lost a Child in Some Way Other than Death?
Death is not the only way we can lose a child. While losing a child through death is a parent's worst nightmare, we can lose our children in many other ways: to religion, cults, gangs, prison, mental illness, drugs, and alcohol, as well as to sociopathic boyfriends, girlfriends, spouses, or a legal decision. Sometimes children are stolen or kidnapped by a parent, relative, or stranger, or they just disappear without a trace.
However it happens, it is a horrible, devastating loss and a parent is left in shock, traumatized, eviscerated, heartbroken, terrified, and alone on a dark and lonely path.
There is no closure as there is with physical death, even though it gives death to your life as you have known it. Nothing is the same after. We are not the same. Our whole family suffers. There is no goodbye, no funeral or communal grieving. Friends and family often don't know how to respond. Their attempts to comfort often fall short, and quite often, it is ignored, as if it didn't happen. Our lives become sectored with a barbed wire demarcation: 'life before' and 'life after' our child disappeared. It seems to me that there is not much support in the culture for this population of grieving parents.
My family and I have been living with such a loss for twelve and a half years now. Initially, I did not feel that I could ever again feel joy, peace, or even have a good day, until I was able to open to what happened to my child, my life, and my family as a profound Spiritual Teacher and Teaching. I also found that a larger, transpersonal, mythic context helped me hold what was happening and allowed me to realize and experience that I was not so excruciatingly alone with this. And, lastly, the practice of Samyama has made it possible not only to survive, but to truly live a full life and be happy--even while, paradoxically, embracing this unfathomable loss. The Great Heart within can hold joy and grief in the same moment, life and loss in the same human heart.
If this has happened to you, I would be honored to hear from you. I am planning to offer a workshop in Boulder, perhaps a teleconference if there is interest, in February on working with this particularly deep loss as a Spiritual Teacher and Teaching. Samyama workshops are especially helpful for learning to be with this grief, too.
