Interactive Smoking Cessation Website

BecomeAnEX.org is a free, interactive website that shows smokers how to re-learn life without cigarettes. The site, developed by Legacy in partnership with Mayo Clinic, offers a free, personalized quit plan and an online support community to help people prepare to quit smoking successfully. Public health professionals and other interested individuals can order free info cards and flyers by October 24, for delivery prior to the Great American Smokeout on November 17.
CDC Vital Signs: Adult Smoking in the U.S.
Vital Signs, from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), offers recent data and calls to action for important public health issues. The September issue of Vital Signs highlighted changes in rates and patterns of adult smoking in the United States during the years of 2005-2010. Learn more on the CDC website.
State-Specific Trends in Lung Cancer Incidence and Smoking
An issue of CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) from September examined state-specific trends in lung cancer incidence and smoking in the United States between 1999-2008. The report found that lung cancer incidence decreased among men in 35 states and among women in six states. The lowest rates of incidence and most dramatic rates of decline were observed in western states. Read more about these trends here
Current Cigarette Smoking Prevalence Among Working Adults
According to a recent MMWR, smoking prevalence among working adults did decrease between 2004 and 2010, but not enough to meet the goal set by Healthy People 2010. Read the report here.
