About The Withrow High School Marching Tigers:
For the past 10 years, The Withrow High School Marching
Band, under the direction of Band Director Mike Wade has been
recognized as the best marching band in the Cincinnati area. This unit has
garnered many regional accolades as well, being named Cincinnati's best
marching band in 2006 by Cincinnati Magazine.
This marching band has restored pride to Withrow High
School, as well as having a positive affect on the student musicians. The vast
majority of student musicians further their education at institutes of higher
learning via marching band and music scholarships.
During these economic times, programs like the Withrow
High School Marching Tigers must be preserved and nurtured. This fundraiser is
designed to provide the Withrow High School Marching Band with the necessary
funds for a variety of purposes, including (but not limited to) uniform
cleaning and replacement, instrument repair and replacement, travel expenses
(there was not enough money in the school budget for the Withrow High School Marching Tigers to travel to "away" games in support of the football team) and
further educational/travel opportunities. |
About National Recording Artist Tom Braxton:
Tom Braxton, a rising star on the Contemporary Jazz
scene, has been a prolific saxophonist for almost 20 years. A seasoned performer, who knows how to charm
audiences of all ages, Braxton has his own distinctive and recognizable sound
which incorporates elements of Jazz, Latin, Funk and R&B and leaves
listeners spellbound, filled with a sense of joy as his music swirls through
your soul.
He started his career over 20 years ago with his jazz-fusion
group "No Compromise". This group opened for stellar jazz artists such as Joe
Sample, Stanley Clarke, and George Howard among many others.
His big break came in 1992, when he signed on as the main
saxophonist for Jazz Guitar legend Wayman Tisdale. He remained with
Tisdale until the guitarist's untimely death early this year.
Braxton's solo career started during this time period with
his initial CD release "Your Move" featuring jazz saxophonist Kirk Whalum. He
has followed that initial release with "Katallaso", "Face to Face"
and "Comfort and Joy", among others. Tom's latest project, "Endless
Highway", highlights Braxton as a composer, producer and arranger
along with six of his original compositions that feature his effortless transition
from soprano, alto and tenor saxophones to showcasing his versatility on piano,
keyboards and flute.
Through the years, Tom has shared the stage with many
well-known artists including Dave Koz, Rick Braun, George Duke, Kirk Whalum,
Jonathan Butler, Jeff Golub, Marcus Miller, Luther Vandross and Phillip Bailey.
Tom has opened concerts for numerous jazz greats including Norman Brown, Boney
James, Najee, Dave Brubeck, Cab Calloway, Spyro Gyra, The Rippingtons, David
Benoit, Pieces of a Dream, Michael Franks and The Crusaders. Over the years,
Braxton has been featured or appeared in media and publications such as JAZZIZ,
Smooth Jazz News, CBS's The Saturday Early Show, BET's Jazz Central, TBS, TNT,
ESPN, CNN, NBC's Inside Stuff, Positively Texas, ABC's Good Morning Texas and
the Fox Network's Good Day Dallas. |
About The
Urban Jazz Coalition:
The Urban
Jazz Coalition is one of the hottest new
contemporary jazz groups to come onto the scene in some
time, and they have created a major buzz on the national festival circuit over
the past few years.
"UJC" has electrified audiences across North America
performing their unique blend of urban jazz
at many of the nation's top smooth jazz festivals, including
The Seabreeze Jazz Festival, The "V98.7"
Detroit Smooth Jazz Fest, Jazz Fest
West, The Las Vegas City of Lights Jazz and R&B
Festival, The Jacksonville Jazz Festival, The Greater
Hartford Festival of Jazz, "WJZZ" Atlanta's
Smooth Jazz Under The Stars Series, and at a variety of
concert venues around the country.
The UJC sound has been described by Jazz Times
Magazine's award winning smooth jazz columnist, Brian
Soergel, as being "flush with rhythmic grooves, funky bass lines, and
beautifully written melodies."
Michael Schivo, producer of The Las Vegas City of Lights Festival, was quoted
saying, "UJC is the best kept secret in smooth jazz...they
rocked our festival into an absolute frenzy! With live performance, it's all
about the music and the energy on stage, and these guys really came to
play."
Urban Jazz Coalition has made a strong impression with radio as well,
as their last three releases, "Contempo", "Long Street",
and "Down To Get Up", have all achieved "Top 50" status on
the national smooth jazz airplay charts. The band's music
has been featured on the NBC Daytime Reality Series, "Starting Over",
as well as in the 2007 hit French film, "Le Verite Ou Presque, while
another UJC album track has recently been licensed by Capitol/EMI Records as
part of a Gospel/Jazz compilation project.
