Mike Wade and The Ambassadors Live at The Redmoor Thursday October 15th!
Mike Wade and The Ambassadors will be live at The Redmoor October 15th, 2009 at 730pm!
Mike Wade,
currently the Band Director at Withrow High School, began his journey
with the trumpet during his preteen years. While a student at The Duke
Ellington School of Arts in Washington DC, he received a National
Symphony Scholarship to study with Symphony Trumpeters. Following a
year at Howard University, He completed his musical education with a
Bachelors in Music Education at Central State University on full
scholarship.
Professionally Mr Wade has been prolific in
performing, recording, composing, producing and arranging to his
credit. He has recorded three CD's under his name; "Standard Time", "The Broach Approach", and "Reality". A fourth CD is currently in Pre-Production, and will be available late 2009! He has performed and/or recorded with an all-star list of musicians, including David "Fathead" Newman, Clark Terry, Gary Bartz,
Mulgrew Miller, Steve Wilson, Othello Molineaux, Bobby Watson, Don
Braden, Jon Hendricks and Annie Ross, Bill Lee, Craig Bailey, Billy
Hart, Bootsy Collins, Earth Wind and Fire, The O'Jays, Teddy Pendegrass, Reggie Calloway, Antoine Roney, and the Go Go group Experience Unlimited (EU). Wade has performed on the Black Entertainment Telivision (BET) "Jazz Discovery" series, and his various groups have performed at numerous festivals and concerts around the country. His
groups have opened for many touring jazz acts. Most notably, his sextet
opened for the acclaimed San Francisco Jazz Collective
with Joshua Redmon, Nicholas Payton, and Bobby Hutcherson during their
visit to the Tri-State in 2005. Observers and fans at the concert
agreed that the Mike Wade Sextet
was the best group on the stage that night! His small group, Standard
Time, won the Cincinnati Music Award (Cammy) for best jazz group in
1997.
Mike Wade's musical peers on the National jazz scene think very highly of his talents as well: Steve
Wilson has said of Mike, "Mike Wade has secured his place among the
legacy of great trumpeters...people get ready!" Mulgrew
Miller has said of Mike, "Mike Wade is a very exciting and creative jazz
trumpeter. He is also a very
charismatic bandleader. He is dedicated
and ambitious. It was a pleasure to
play with him". Craig
Bailey has said of Mike, "Mike Wade is one the most inspiring musicians
of the new millennium. He has the fire
and energy that it takes to be a great leader as well as a great artist. His hustle ability on and off the horn will
take him to many new horizons. He is a
name not to forget, as well as a trumpet player not to miss." In 1997, he was named one of the top ten unsigned brass players by Jazziz Magazine.
Playing
with Mike on this date is Melvin Broach, Drums; George Simon, Guitar;
Carlton Tolliver, Bass; and Charlie Schweitzer, Percussion

The Joshua Atkin Quartet Live at The Redmoor Thursday October 22nd!
The Joshua Atkin Quartet will be live at The Redmoor Thursday October 22, 2009 at 730pm!
Born
in Cleveland, Ohio Joshua Atkin studied saxophone at The Ohio State University
with Gene Walker. He has also studied with Bobby Watson, Ernie
Krivda and Wessell "Warmdaddy" Anderson. He has played in
the North Sea Jazz Festival, The Montreux Jazz Festival, and throughout
the Caribbean with various small and large jazz groups. More
recently, he played with the Mario Abney Quintet at the Jazz Aspen Series
in Aspen, Colorado where he shared the stage with Russell Malone, Loren
Schoneberg, and Christian McBride. He has performed with Tim Hagans,
Don Byron, Bobby Watson, John Faddis, Frank Foster, David Murray, Hank
Marr, Pharez Whitted, Eddie Daniels, Chris Vandala, and Herlin Riley
to name a few.
Brian
Cashwell (B.M. Florida State University, M.M. University of Georgia,
Doctoral Studies, University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music)
is equally at home in both the jazz and classical idioms. Mr. Cashwell
maintains an active performing schedule performing in a variety of musical
roles. Before moving back to Ohio to
take a teaching position at Central State University, Mr. Cashwell lived
in New York City. While in New York, he performed in various musical
roles at a diverse selection of venues including The Blue Note, The
Metropolitan Museum of Art, Symphony Space, The Lion's Den, The Cutting
Room, Kavehaz, the Brooklyn Academy of Music. He
also played in the pit orchestra for touring productions of The Producers,
Phantom of the Opera, Hairspray, Pacific Overtures, and many other Broadway
shows at Cincinnati's Aronoff Center and Playhouse in the Park.
John
Taylor is a Professional Drummer, Composer, Arranger, and Educator based
in Dayton, Ohio. John plays Piano/Keyboard, Electric Bass, Guitar,
and Marimba. John Studied jazz composition at the Berklee College
of Music and has performed with many jazz greats including Chick Corea,
Pat Metheny, and Maria Schneider.
Christopher
Slone is a bassist and composer who recently completed his Master's
degree at Philadelphia's University of the Arts. Prior to this
he was an active musician in his native Ohio, where he performed frequently
in the Dayton, Cincinnati, and Columbus music scenes.
As a member of several high-caliber
bands, including The Mario Abney Quintet, Chris has played at festivals and venues in cities across the
United States including Chicago; Milwaukee; Baltimore; Washington, D.C.
and Corpus Christi, Texas. In 2003, Chris had the honor of appearing
with tenor saxophonist Houston Person at the AACW Blues Festival in
his hometown of Yellow Springs, Ohio. He has also been privileged to
perform with such artists as Othello Molineaux and Ginetta Minichiello.

Brian Feldkamp, one of the owners of The Redmoor, welcomed into his family a newborn baby girl Friday morning! The Newborn Feldkamp checked in at 8lbs even! All are doing well! When you see Brian at The Redmoor, wish him very well!!! |
Parking At The Redmoor!
Parking for The Redmoor is PLENITIFUL! There is a driveway on the left side of the complex
that leads to a well-lit closed-circuit monitored area of approximately
90 spaces! All of the parking is off street and FREE!!! Do
not worry about parking on the street, or in Mt Lookout Square; The
Redmoor has all the parking needed for your safe, peace of mind! |
