Get set for a full day of family music and song on Saturday, November 13 when Chicago folksinger, Mark Dvorak, returns to the Ludington Area Center for the Arts.
Dvorak, a faculty member at Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music, hosts a free music program at 2 pm that day for kids 5 to 15.
Such workshops are a passion of Dvorak's: he shares stories, explores different instruments, looks at what makes a folk song a folk song, and engages the kids in singing together.
At 7:30 p.m. Dvorak will perform in the gallery, encouraging sing-alongs while he plays his acoustic guitar and banjo. The concert will feature snacks and a cash bar. Tickets for the evening concert are $12 general admission and $10 for those over 60 years old, and $5 for kids, 15 and under. Tickets are available online at
www.ludingtonartscouncil.org or at the Ludington Area Center for the Arts during its business hours, Tuesday-Saturday, noon-5:30 pm, or call and reserve tickets at 231-843-2787.
Dvorak is a member of WeaverMania! a musical tribute to The Weavers, and a member of North American Folk Music and Dance Alliance.
He's been recognized with awards, including the 1995 Parents' Choice Award for excellence in children's music, and the 1993 Peter Lisagar Award from the National Society of Professional Journalism for Best Radio Feature, his "Lead Belly's Legacy" original.
Dvorak's return appearance is again being sponsored by a local couple, Mike and Linda Lenich. By underwriting such an event, the Leniches benefit from seeing their donation go farther through the additional tickets sales that are generated, which benefits the Center.
At the same time, this sponsorship allows the Center to offer a kids' workshop for free, since it will be funded through ticket sales from the concert."
