Thursday, July 15, 7:30 p.m.

Edgar Struble and Ron Johnson

Edgar Struble, composer and music director, will be performing this Thursday in the Center's gallery. He will be joined by saxophonist, Ron Johnson.

The two, who grew up together in Scottville, will entertain the audience with an informal mix of music and stories in the gallery of the Center. Tickets for the concert are $5 at the door. Snacks and punch will be available for purchase.

Edgar Struble book coverStruble will also be signing copies of his new book, Working in the Music Industry, which gives straightforward advice on preparing for and entering careers in the music business. Struble draws upon his extensive experience as a performer, music director, and producer in presenting the myriad opportunities available in the field, from road musician to concert promoter to entertainment attorney and everything in between.

Clearly and with a dash of humor, he explains what those jobs entail and the training and experience required for each. Included are interviews with seasoned professionals who share behind-the-scenes stories of their rise to success along with practical suggestions and encouragement to help turn a passion for music into a lucrative career.

Edgar Struble is known for his work in a wide range of media, with a primary focus in television and film.  Since 2003, he has been music director and composer for the annual "Academy of Country Music Awards," and is embarking on his 5th year in the same capacity for the "American Music Awards."

Ron Johnson, saxophonist and occasional washboard player, joins Struble for this informal evening of music. A lawyer by day, Johnson has played with many local bands, including General Assembly.
Sweet Summer Art Exhibition Continues Through July 31

The exhibition features 50 paintings by 20 area artists in a non-juried show. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 5:30 p.m.

Jenna Sanders - TulipsArtists were invited to submit work under the broad theme of Sweet Summer. Jenna Sanders of Ludington chose to submit Tulips in Pitcher because, "The first things I think of when I think of summer are red tulips.
They are a sign to me that winter is gone, and I love to pick a vase of them for my house."

Similarly, Laura Carter chose Umbrellas because, "To me, everybody on the beach represents summer. It's the only season people can go out and enjoy the warm weather."
