Film Series Continues with Vincent and Theo This Friday, June 25 at 7 p.m.
Directed
by Robert Altman, this is an unsentimental portrait of Vincent Van Gogh and his
art dealer brother, Theo Van Gogh.
Altman focuses on the symbiotic relationship
between Vincent, who provides the living embodiment of Theo's unfulfilled
artistic aspirations, and Theo, who tries to connect his brother to the outside
world and financial independence.
Focusing on the individual rather than his
art, the film is a powerful interpretation of the life of one of the world's
most famous artists. It stars Tim Roth as Vincent and Paul Rhys as Theo. The film is rated PG-13.
In the coming months, the Third Coast Film Society will
continue screening films about artists: July's offering will be Buena Vista Social Clubabout legendary Cuban musicians,
and in August, the Society screens, Basquiat, about the post-modern African
American artist, Jean Michael Basquiat.
Tickets for each film screening are
$7 per person at the door. Popcorn
and beverages will be available for sale.
