Coming this Friday, May 28 at 7 p.m.:
The Third Coast Film Society presents, Frida, a biographical film about the legendary Mexican surrealist artist.
 A sumptuous feast of art, music, art direction and outrageous personalities, Frida chronicles her long and stormy marriage to Mexican muralist Diego Rivera, and the circle of artists, celebrities, and famous figures who inhabited their world.
With Academy awards for best makeup and best original music score, the film stars Salma Hayek as Frida and Alfred Molina as Diego Rivera. Frida is directed by noted theater, opera, and film director, Julie Taymor.
In the coming months, the Third Coast Film Society will continue screening films about artists: June's film will be Vincent and Theo, about Vincent Van Gogh and his art dealer brother, Theo. July's offering will be Buena Vista Social Club about legendary Cuban musicians, and in August, the Society screens, Basquiat, about the post-modern African-American artist, Jean Michael Basquiat.
Tickets for each film screening are $7 per person at the door. Popcorn and beverages will be available for sale.
Parking for Center events is available in the public lot south of the Center at the corner of Harrison and Loomis Streets.

Issues of Driftwood: a periodic review of Michigan writing available for purchase now through Ludington Visiting Writers
The latest issue of this periodic review of Michigan writing, Driftwood 10 "Air" is available for purchase online. The review, which is published by Ludington Visiting Writers, features 20 selected poems and prose pieces of exactly 100 words on the theme of "Air" in any of that word's manifold meanings. Call to Artists - Christmas Extravaganza; deadline to apply is September 1
Applications for the 2010 Center for the Arts Christmas Extravaganza Juried Fine Arts/Crafts Show on Thanksgiving weekend are available.
The show is Friday, Nov. 26 and Saturday, Nov. 27 at the Ludington Area Center for the Arts. Booth spaces are $50; table spaces are $20. Application deadline is Sept. 1.

Make a Perfect Match!

A very special event is coming to the Center for the Arts on Thursday, June 17 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
On this day the Community Foundation for Mason County will providing a 50% match for donations to organizations that have funds with the Community Foundation, including the Ludington Area Arts Council.
The match is capped at $1,500 per individual donor, with a maximum match of $10,000 going to any one organization.
Whether you are already a supporter of the Ludington Area Arts Council or are considering becoming one, this is a one-time opportunity to have your contribution go 50% further.
If you can't make it to the event on June 17, you can drop off or mail us a check, pre-dated for June 17. Checks should be made out to the Community Foundation for Mason County, indicating "Ludington Area Arts Council" in the memo line.
