The
Performance Hall for the Ludington Area Center for the Arts is now equipped for
piano concerts and recitals, thanks to the donation of a Baldwin grand piano by
Ludington residents, Dr. Marc and Carole Keen.
"A Center for the Arts without a concert piano is like an angel without wings,"
Dr. Keen explained. "In society, the arts often get short shrift...if a group of
people get together to create something like the Center for the Arts here in
Ludington, I want to help support it."
Students, faculty, and performers at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp had used the piano, a
Baldwin grand, before Dr. Keen purchased it through West Michigan Piano in Grand
Rapids. A piano cover, stage
carriage, a humidifier/heater unit, and regular tunings were also purchased to
maintain the piano for concerts year-round.
The purchase of these accessories was made possible
through a piano fund established from the proceeds of a 2008 condo tour
organized by the residents of Ludington Harbor Terrace Condominiums in
Ludington.
"We are so thankful to Dr. Keen for his
initiative and generous donation, as well as to the foresight and fundraising
efforts of the Ludington Harbor Terrace Condominium residents," said Terry
Murphy, executive director of the Center. "The grand piano is a critical addition to the Performance Hall and our
ability to welcome concert pianists to the Center."
