Jazz It Up Was Very Hot!!!!
Despite yet another dumping of snow, the Ludington Area Arts Council's second annual "Jazz It Up" winter fundraiser at PM Steamers on Saturday, February 21 was a hot night.
Because of the generosity of the many people who braved the elements to come out and support the arts council, the event netted $6,000 for operations and programming at the Center for the Arts.
The brainchild of arts council board member Ted Malt, this year's event featured a live performance from the MSU Jazz Octet 1, under the direction of nationally renowned saxophonist Diego Rivera. The eight musicians in the octet, plus one vocalist, who hail from various parts of Michigan, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and even Japan, kept the place jumping all evening. PM Steamers generously donated the never-ending supply of delectable hors d'oeuvres.
Earlier in the day, 65 students from around the area attended a free performance and clinics given by the octet. Check out video coverage of the octet's performance at the Center and questions from the students attending.
