The Ludington Area Center for the Arts'
First Exhibition Opens This Month

Suitcase exhibit - book cover

The nationally recognized mental health exhibit, "The Lives They Left Behind: Suitcase from a State Hospital Attic," comes to the Center starting Friday, January 9, thanks to the initiative and sponsorship of West Michigan Community Mental Health Services (WMCMHS).

Based on the book of the same name by Darby Penney and Peter Stastny, the exhibit tells the stories, through large panels of photographs and text, of individuals who lived in a state mental hospital in New York in the early to mid-20th century.  Accompanying the exhibit is a display of suitcases created by consumers and staff of WMCMHS.  This display tells the stories of local individuals living with mental illnesses and developmental disabilities today.

Please plan to attend a Special Open House on Friday, January 16
