Special Film Screening Sunday, December 28 - 5:30 p.m.
Plan to join us on the Sunday after Christmas for an evening with Bernard Rose, writer and director of the film, "Immortal Beloved."
The film, which stars Gary Oldman and Isabella Rossellini, begins with the death of Ludwig van
Beethoven. His secretary and long-suffering
friend, Anton Schindler starts the search for
the person, "my immortal beloved," to whom Beethoven has left his goods,
his works and his money.
In addition to the film screening and discussion with Bernard Rose, the Cartier Mansion
will be providing cheese and crackers and desserts. Tickets for this
event are $10 at the door. Cartier Mansion will also be offering a cash
bar with wine and beer.

Demolition Derby at the Center!
On a recent Saturday in November eight or so guys cheerfully subjected themselves to splinters and sore muscles, spending a good 8-hour day ripping and hauling carpet and wood. The job? To dismantle the former altar and prepare to transform it into a stage that will be big enough to accommodate a 60-piece orchestra. The front of the stage will extend out another two feet and the sides of that stage will be the full width of the performance hall.
The work is being done entirely by volunteers, with the only cost (besides the sore muscles) going toward the lumber and other materials. The new stage should be completed by January.
Thanks to everyone who has helped out with this effort: volunteers John Bell, Mike Boyd, Craig Convissor (and his dog Oreo), Mike Lenich, Eliot Plummer, Marty Ziemba and board members Bill Carpenter, Rick Plummer, Ted Malt, Shirley Reeds, Kari Karr, and Kay Marble.
We are grateful to the Mason County Community Foundation which has provided the Ludington Area Arts Council with a $10,000 grant, which will be used for first phase of renovation for the Performance Hall; materials to build the stage, electrical upgrades, and window treatments to darken the Hall.
Board members Ted Malt and Bill Carpenter (right) are still smiling even on their umpteenth trip to the dumpster.
John Bell, Ted Malt, and Mike Lenich take a well-deserved break amid the demolition.
