Add some giggles and some laughter,
A dash of Christmas food,
(Amazing how a piece of pie
Improves our attitude!)
Stir it all with human kindness;
Wrap it up in love and peace,
Decorate with optimism, and
Our joy will never cease.
If we use this healthy recipe,
We know we will remember
To be in the Christmas spirit,
Even when it's not December.

Some of my fondest memories are about Christmas. My mother comes from a large, loud, opinionated family, and every Christmas Eve we would all descend on my grandparent's small two bedroom house. I remember the excitement I felt waiting for that day to come. I couldn't sleep the night before, and excitement made time stand still. I would spend most of the day ice skating to take my mind off the wait.
Finally, we were told to "get ready" which meant I could put on a new party dress with matching shoes! (My mother has exquisite taste, so we all looked great.) After a final spit and polish, we were all piled into the station wagon and it was - over the river and through the woods to grandmother's house we go.
The Barclay clan isn't lacking for descendants. On most Christmas Eves there would be around forty or more people in my grandparent's little house - we were like a living jig-saw puzzle. Everyone talked all at once - over and around all the kids, noise, clutter and food. We could all keep up multiple conversations like a troop of street jugglers. I loved every minute of it! A new dress, matching shoes, tons of people, noise, gifts, and food! What's not for this little Playful Sanguine to love!
Long before handheld video recorders were common place, my father had a huge camera with lights so bright they could be used to illuminate a night time football game. One of the aunts would line up all the little children in one of the small bedrooms off the living room in order of birth - youngest to oldest, sending us out single file into a blaze of light. My aunt Carol would yell, "Smile and wave!" We couldn't see where we were going, but we smiled and waved as we "moved into the light." It wasn't officially Christmas until the lights came out.
The first Christmas story starts with a beacon of light also. Matthew 2: 2 tells of the Wise men's request, "Where is the one who was born to be King of the Jews? We saw his star rising and have come to worship him." Jesus' light still shines, beckoning us unto himself - the love of God, freely given to all men.
As we head into this holiday season, let's be mindful that for some of us, this season is not just gifts and parties, but is Christ-mas. We have seen his light shining and have come to worship him.

Dear God, who created mankind in your image, you sure made a colorful world of people! As I stop and watch and reflect on the people I see, I notice how everyone is unique. Sometimes I'm frustrated by others' personalities and actions; other times I am blessed; still other times I am amused. The fact is, though we were made in your image, you gave us each a will of our own and instilled different gifts, personalities, and potential within us. How boring it would be if we were all just alike! The "spice" of life is made up of all those different people, with different ideas, and various contributions. Thank you for caring enough that we are not your puppets, but are unique individuals, each called to fill special places in your great plan for our lives. I pray that you will keep my eyes open, my mind alert, and my will in tune so that I will use all you have given me--gifts, personality, skills, desires--to the best of my ability, for the edification of the saints, reaching the lost, and glorifying you. Please forgive my past failures and empower me today for all you want to do through me. In Jesus' name, amen. |

As I have said earlier, I want to introduce you to some of the people and programs I have had the privilege to encounter over the past few years. Some of these programs will not apply to you now, but you never know when the time will be right. I feel it's better to be exposed to new ideas and programs long before you need them, so when the time is right, you're not making a mad dash to find them -- you'll know where to look.

What Should Be In Your Business Plan?
Many people quake in fear at the idea of writing a business plan. They imagine in their mind a 100-page document full of charts and financial figures. While it's possible to create a business plan of that magnitude when trying to get capital for your business, a typical business plan for self-employed people should be less than 10 pages.
The purpose of a business plan, for a self-employed person who is financing his own business, is to have a central repository for all strategic thinking about the business for the coming year or two.
Here's what should be included:
Your business idea in three sentences.
Your target audience.
The challenges that your target audience faces.
The benefits of using your products and services to meet those challenges.
Your company brand and image.
Your projected revenue and expenses for a year.
If you project more expenses than revenue for the first year, a statement about where the money will come from to pay for those expenses.
A list of your major competitors, and how you are different from them.
At least six markting techniques you're planning to use over the coming year, when you plan to implement them, and what results do you expect from them.
A list of people who you will need to hire to implement your business plan or marketing plan (unless you have the business skills and time, yourself, to do all the work).
You should review your business plan, and update it, annually. I recommend reviewing the marketing section of your business plan quarterly, so that you can gauge the success of your marketing campaigns.
