Greetings Everyone!

Happy Harvest Time!!

I don't know about you, but I love the crisp cool air of fall. As a northern gal, seasonal changes are in my blood and I love it.  For most of us, there is one special season or time of year that tugs at our heart, and becomes our favorite.  Fall is my favorite - it's the beginning of all the colorful celebrations to come! I just move from hayrides and hot cider, to turkey, dressing and pies, then on to gift giving, a traditional Swedish pancake breakfast and more pies!  Of course all this celebrating is not done alone, there are plenty of other people involved. As we enter the holiday season many of us are already anticipating the stress of family gatherings.  =0(  Wouldn't it be great if this year we could came armed with an understanding of how we are wired up and anticipate having a good time?

Further down in this newsletter I'll list the emotional needs of each personality and get us rolling toward a great holiday experience.  Over the next months I'll post tips, my own and those other trainers send into me, on how to apply this powerful knowledge to everyday life.

Happy Harvest Season!

Today's Prayer
October 16, 2007
Dear Lord, Thank you for this day. Thank you for my being able to see, to hear, to speak, to move about this day. I'm blessed because You are a forgiving and understanding God. You have done so much for me. I have witnessed your hand of blessing, your miraculous power in my my life and the lives of those I love, and you just keep on blessing me. Forgive me this day for everything I have done, said or thought that was not pleasing to you. I ask now for Your  forgiveness. Please keep me, my family, and my church family safe from all danger and harm. Help me to start this day with a positive and Christ-focused attitude and plenty of gratitude. Please clear my mind of distractions so that I can hear from you and please direct my steps today. Thank you so much, in Jesus' name, amen.

Your help is needed!
Allison Mooney, (New Zealand's top CPT) is putting together a series of articles and talks on Christmas shopping/buying habits and of course it will revolve around Personalities!

Here's where you come in - she is looking for stories and observations which can be posted in her project. (Remember, we are not trying to pin people in to habits that are not true.  Please do NOT assume a behavior, watch and report what actually happens. Thank you for being careful about this, because we get a bad name by pigeonholing people, and for some reason, they don't like being pigeonholed!  Imagine that!)

You may submit an article, a story, or an observation.  Your work is still your domain and can be sent to other publications also.  This is a good time of year to start posting your articles about the holidays. (I will be listing the major article sites in the next newsletter.)

Here are some questions to start the creative juices flowing:
After each question, identify the person's personality.

Who has consistently given the best "liked" gifts?
Who has consistently given the worst gifts?
What motivates you in your gift purchasing decisions?
Who is a last minute shopper?
Who is done early?
Who gives the most expensive gifts?
Who uses beautiful wrappings and bows?

By no means are these the only questions to ask, but you get the drift, add your own questions and answers.

Research and Articles
It's that time of year again - the leaves are turning color and the stores are stocking up for the holidays, which means we will all be spending time with family!

Happy family gatherings can be life threatening for some of us, but understanding basic personality behaviors can be a lifesaver. If you haven't watched the move The Family Stone, this would be a great refresher course on what could and does go wrong at family gatherings.  This movie is a good study of classic personalities at work - in their strengths and their struggles.  As a Personality Trainer, I love watching movies and TV shows which expose personality strengths and struggles.

Being able to "see" or identify personality differences makes it so much easier to understand someone who is nothing like us.  This new ability to see differences, can help us change our reactions to the people who rub us wrong.  I have a saying, "If we can see it - we can fix it, but if we can't see it, we are destined to repeat the same damage, day after day."

It's a natural "knee jerk" reaction to think there is something wrong with the other person when they don't respond to situations the same way we do.  By understanding the emotional needs of each personality, we can adjust our expectations of people who are not like us.  When we give the right emotional needs to the people around us, we show them respect, which says - you are valued, you are loved.  And, if we get right down to it, life is all about feeling loved and valued.

This week I'll list the emotional needs for each personality and in the weeks to come I'll post examples and stories of how to make Personality Principles work in your everyday life.

Quote of the Week
I thought it would be fun to do a group of quotes with the same theme, only with a Personality slant. I'm going to let you figure out which one belongs to which Personality. Enjoy!

 Discovery!

One of the advantages of being disorderly is that one is constantly making exciting discoveries.

A. A. Milne(1882 -1956)

The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance - it is the illusion of knowledge.

Daniel J. Boorstin (1914 - )

If I have ever made any valuable discoveries, it has been owing more to patient attention, than to any other talent.

Isaac Newton (1642 - 1727)

The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not 'Eureka!' (I found it!) but 'That's funny ...'

Isaac Asimov (1920 - 1992)
