Calvin and Pierre planting native big blue spiderwort, Louisiana irises (yellow and red), Texas sedge, switchgrass, blue sedge, and frog fruit plants in our new hand-dug coastal prairie wetland in Esteban Park. Notice the remnant of high-quality virgin coastal prairie in the back.

Please come out and help people and the prairie get healthy again!

  • pull weeds
  • haul brush and tree limbs
  • remove invasive species
  • prepare the soil in the front organic farm
  • build a second coastal prairie wetland
  • learn about nature-based work therapy and how you can help heal lives and reduce recidivism and other social problems

Esteban Park is a brand new refuge for urban Houston - part coastal prairie restoration preserve, part organic farm. It is also serving as the educational springboard for two landscape-level restoration complexes of native coastal prairie & wetlands several thousand acres in size each, west and east of Houston along the Upper Texas Gulf Coast

There is less than 1% of our native coastal prairie left. And many people are struggling. Restoration Not Incarceration™ helps heal both.

Esteban Park is a partnership between  Great Plains Restoration Council

and St. John's Downtown.

RSVP at info@gprc.org  or call 832-598-GPRC

Please come with appropriate work clothing, including long sleeve shirts and gloves, and bring sun protection and water. Food and refreshments will be provided. Extra tools like hoes, rakes, and shovels are appreciated!
