June 2010

The Road - Alumnae Newsletter
Greetings!

The whirlwind that comes with the end of term is now behind us, and those of us who remain on campus during the summer months have settled into a different pace.

For the first time, portions of Reunion Weekend, held on May 29 and 30, were videographed! Click on the story below, and settle back for a cyber-visit to Branksome Hall! Perhaps you will see yourself or one of your friends. And, we're delighted to introduce you to our 2010 alumnae award recipients - Frances DAFOE Bogin'48 (World Champion Figure Skater and Olympic Medalist) and Amy VERNER'98 (Fashion and Lifestyle Journalist). Their speeches are inspirational and heart warming.

The Fall issue of The READ is shaping up. The theme is "The Arts" and details are below - I hope you will contribute! We are also gearing up for the September 30 Alumnae Association fundraiser, take pART. Bring your friends and family to Arta Gallery in Toronto's Distillery District for a great night of culture and surprises!

Have a great summer, and keep in touch.

Senator Nancy RUTH'60

"Canada needs more strong, capable female political leaders," says Senator Nancy RUTH'60, the 2010 Rachel Phillips Belash Speaker.

"Imagine a country where only 22 per cent of elected parliamentarians are women," she challenged the Senior Gym filled with students, faculty, staff, parents, alumnae and friends. In that nation, which is Canada, "40 per cent of companies have no women on their boards of directors and, overall, women hold only 14 per cent of seats on boards," she added.

The READ, Fall 2009
We're zooming in on alumnae in the arts - all arts - drama, writing, dance, music, visual art, theatre/film, etc.

All alumnae are welcome to contribute to this broad-based theme. Tell us how the arts impact your life. Do you have artistic flare, and is it your source of income, or your hobby? Do you have a thriving arts community in your town/city/country?

Sum up your experience in 150 words or less and e-mail it to:

Donor dollars help support scholarships and bursaries, equip young athletes so that they can excel, develop world-class speakers and debaters, and support leading-edge facilities.

As we approach the fiscal year-end on June 30, we hope you will make a gift to one of the school's two fundraising priorities: Student Financial Aid or the Principal's Fund.

Please join with other alumnae in demonstrating your support for Branksome's values, mission and continued pursuit of excellence in education.

Special thanks and congratulations to reunion classes who raised funds for special projects. Each class surpassed their goals! Congratulations!
