Resolutions SUCK!
Resolutions suck. That's just a fact. Here are some interesting statistics about New Year resolutions:

  • According to researchers, we'll fail in 50 to 80% of New Year resolutions within the first month.
  • 75% of people setting resolutions fail on the first attempt.
  • Most popular resolutions have to do with health.
Why is it so difficult for us to set and accomplish New Year resolutions?

Psychologists theorize that people with low-self belief and those who lack a sense of personal power will be those most likely to fail in goal setting. People who lack a feeling of self-control and self-determination are those who are more likely to fail to accomplish set goals.

If you lack a sense of power and control over your life you're also more likely to be defeated by small set-backs rather than rebounding and continuing your efforts.

In my experience I've found several factors that contribute to failure in goal setting in general and resolutions in particular:
  • Goals are too large or set-up unrealistic expectations.
  • Failure to set manageable, realistic and attainable goals.
  • Lack of material, emotional or spiritual resources to support goals.
  • Allowing small set-backs to defeat effort.
  • Lack of resiliency due to a deficiency in self-motivation, discipline or courage.
Power is your ability or capacity to act or perform effectively. Without power it's very difficult to sustain the effort you need to accomplish your goals. Success is very difficult without a clear set of attainable goals based on an accurate accounting of your material, emotional and spiritual resources.

Effective Goal Setting Action Steps
Here are some action steps you can take to make sure you accomplish the goals you set for yourself in the New Year:

  • Start with a Big Idea; make sure you're thinking about what you want to accomplish for the year and beyond.
  • Then isolate smaller, attainable goals that support your larger vision.
  • Take an inventory of your material, emotional and spiritual resources and make sure you've got what it takes to sustain your effort.
  • Develop a plan for continual personal development. Make a list of several books you'd like to read, audio programs to listen to and seminars or classes to attend.
  • Track your progress and continually re-evaluate and adjust goals. Adjusting a goal is not a failure; it's a tactical re-deployment to assure your success.
All of these steps can be accomplished by working through our New Year REVOLUTION program. Download the audio and PDF manual and complete this step-by-step system to identify resources, set clear, attainable goals and evaluate your progress.

One of the biggest reasons for failure in any goal setting effort is a lack of resilience or perseverance. The process of setting and accomplishing goals is simple; but it's not usually easy. Despite your best efforts there will be challenges, obstacles and set-backs. Remember that a failure does not make you a failure. "Get yourself up, dust yourself off and start all over again!"

Accept failures and set-backs as just part of the process. Failure sucks; you don't! A champion isn't the guy who never gets knocked down; it's the guy who keeps getting up! I'm running out of fortune cookies; you get the point! Accomplishing worthwhile goals is difficult, but it's worth it.

New Year REVOLUTION
Resolutions suck! This year start a New Year REVOLUTION!

Here's what you're going to do in your New Year REVOLUTION:

  • Identify "Big Ideas" and long range goals.
  • Inventory your material, emotional and spiritual resources.
  • Identify goals that are best supported by your current level of personal motivation and discipline.
  • Create realistic, attainable goals based on your resources and personal motivation.
The New Year REVOLUTION is a simple method that guides you through each of these steps. Of course the New Year is a great time to think about setting goals, but you can use the REVOLUTION any time you want to lay the foundation for successful planning and goal setting.

Scroll down to the Bonus Materials to download your PDF manual and the audio program which will guide you through the process. I recommend taking a couple of days to work through this process. Don't worry if New Year's Eve is approaching; in reality it's a day like any other. Take your time and start your New Year on your terms.

Most of all success in the New Year is dependent on your commitment to continual self-improvement. Increase your power: your ability to perform and act effectively. Commit to a program of self-perfection; you can start by reading or re-reading Dynamic Components of Personal POWER.
