Greetings from your E$C Coordinator, Diana Pangestu:
It's November, the month of thanks. Thank you all for reading these eNewsletters, and pushing for a cleaner, greener, and healthier environment with all you do.
Call for case studies! Are you a building owner, tenant, or contractor who has made green
upgrades to your building or implemented green operations and
maintenance practices? We want to hear from you!
Solar One is assembling case studies to help illustrate that green
building management choices are practical and cost-effective, as well
as beneficial for the environment. No project is too big or too small,
and we will credit your company whenever we use the case study (or keep
you anonymous if you prefer). We are especially looking for projects
where there has been some recording of the costs versus savings of the
implemented measures, particularly energy-efficiency improvements.
We need case studies that address any of the following subjects:
Lighting Appliances Building Envelope Water Conservation Cleaning HVAC Recycling and Waste Materials and Product Sourcing
Health & Safety
Please email all inquiries and case studies to max@solar1.org. Thank you!
The
Energy $mart Communities eNewsletter disseminates information on NYSERDA

| Mayor Bloomberg Announces 30 Initiatives to Grow New York City's Green Economy. |
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg announced a comprehensive plan to grow New York City's green economy. The 30 initiatives that comprise the plan will support and attract green businesses and entrepreneurs and provide specialized training to prepare New Yorkers for green jobs.
Together, they will help foster a supportive environment for the green sector, focused on four target areas that will account for 70 percent of green sector jobs in the City over the next decade: green buildings, onsite renewable energy, carbon trading and finance, and greener neighborhoods. The City is investing more than $7.5 million to implement the initiatives while also leveraging existing City, State and federal stimulus funds. Highlights of the initiatives include: - Develop Urban Technology Innovation Center - Establish "Solar Zones" to Encourage Expanded Solar PV Installations - Build Innovative Solar Project at the Brooklyn Army Terminal - Launch Solar Thermal Grant Program - Launch Urban Wind Demonstration Project - Kick-off Green JumpStart NYC - Examine City and State Laws Relating to a National Cap-and-Trade System - Create Green Knowledge Centers at City Schools - Launch Green Incentives Guide For a complete list of the 30 initiatives, click here. |
Governor Paterson Announces $24 Million in Stimulus Funding Awarded to State Energy Program Projects
|
Governor
David A. Paterson today announced that $24 million in American Recovery
and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding has been awarded to support 87
energy conservation projects across New York ($8,942,044 for New York City) that will help implement
energy efficiency, renewable energy and clean fleet projects. These
projects will reduce energy and operating costs by more than $6.5
million annually and fully return the initial investment in just over
five years.
The
projects, which were competitively selected under the State Energy
Program, represent the first step of funding from a program that will
total $74 million. Additional awards are expected to be made before the
end of the year. Measures funded include installation of lighting and
lighting controls, solar photovoltaic systems, high efficiency biomass
boilers, solar thermal and small wind generators and alternative-fuel
refueling stations and vehicles. Award recipients include
municipalities, public schools, universities and colleges, hospitals
and not-for-profit agencies.
Francis
J. Murray, Jr., NYSERDA President and CEO said: "Implementing energy
efficiency and conservation measures is absolutely critical to
achieving the State's mission to reduce energy consumption, protect the
environment and attain energy security. The State Energy Program fits
hand in glove with the Governor's ambitious energy goals of meeting 45
percent of the State's electricity needs through improved energy
efficiency and renewable energy by 2015, and reducing greenhouse gas
pollution within the State by 80 percent by the year 2050. NYSERDA
looks forward to working with the award recipients to help them achieve
the greatest savings possible."
The
next round of funding for the remaining $49.9 million has been
announced with proposals due to NYSERDA on November 23, 2009.
Additional due dates will be available pending remaining funding
availability. Click here for more information about RFP 1613.
