What Makes a Great Facilitator?
A recent survey of 460 facilitators and facilitation clients identified three most valuable facilitator characteristics:
-The ability to FOCUS a group -The ability to ENGAGE a group, and -The facilitator's ADAPTABILITY.
How do you rate? What strategies do you use to focus, engage, and adapt? These tips will help:
1. Use An Outcome-Based Agenda. In developing your agenda, think about "what will be different" by the meeting's end. Ensure that all the agenda items work to achieve that outcome. 2. Develop Behavioral Agreements AFTER Meeting Several Times. Ask and record "what behaviors have been working well for us so far?" Discuss and get commitment. 3. Use A Visible "Who-Does-What-By-When" Action Plan. Record commitments throughout the meeting; review at the end. Improve your facilitation skills! |
Competition: Do You Use e-Readers in Training? I'm curious about how trainers are using e-readers (Kindles, etc) to enhance their workshops.
Send me your e-reader training ideas. I will feature the best ones in our next newsletter and reward their author(s) with a $25 Starbucks card!
