How to Sabotage Your Presentation (Part Two)
Want to make the most common mistakes in the business? Just do the following:
Use PowerPoint as a planning tool. Instead, first figure out your session's Purpose. Write it down. Then identify the 3 major points you need to make. Write them down. Create your slides ONLY to support these points.
Practice just in your head. Yes, run through your presentation mentally-especially the first three minutes. But also present several times in front of a mirror or another human being.
Know that technology will always work. Instead, do all you can to be self-sufficient. Be ready to use your own computer, cables, power strip, even projector. Have your presentation on a flashdrive (or several.) Be prepared for the worst--it may well happen. |
Stay Professional in Virtual Meetings
 Teleconferencing? Use these etiquette tips.
Use the "Mute" button. Don't complicate the conversation with excess noise. Unmute when you have something to say.
Alert others when you want to enter the conversation. To break into the conversation, say "Question" or "Excuse Me." Then wait a few seconds until you are sure you have the floor. Remain actively involved. Just because they can't see you doesn't mean you can check the sports scores or answer e-mail. Be present! |
